Not exactly a loss. If they had put the same amount of work into TBC as they put into vanilla, it'd be appalling. Despite them allegedly having worked on it for 6 years by a dozen developers or whatever, at launch I can't think of a single quest broken in open source emulation that worked on Nostalrius (Lazy Peons, Plagued Lands, Investigate Blue Recluse, Counterattack!, Freedom For All Creatures, you name it) and it also displayed the bulk of class bugs and other issues you could have known were going to be there.
Of course, at this point they've probably managed to "fix" the most outrageous and obvious issues, I haven't played since Nost launch, but then you must remember that TBC is a lot more difficult to get right. For starters, the starting point (ie. open source emulation) is in a inferior state compared to how it is for vanilla and WotLK.
