Building or buying a controller, I understand. It'll last forever, you can always resell it, and it won't really become meaningless.
But gadgets? They have a shelf life. In 5 years, they'll be totally obsolete, and you'll have to buy the latest version all over again. And when you're spending thousands of dollars per generation, you have a problem.
