First one was much better overall.
Combat has been slightly improved in the sequel.
Story and characters are vastly inferior to the first game.
Except the Dracula's Castle parts. Those were pretty cool. The sequel was quite obviously half-done. Because part of the team left halfway through development due to the director being a huge faggot. And it shows.
It's great.
People hate it because the story is dumb and it's drawn out as fuck, but mechanically and in terms of presentation it's pretty great.
Thought the modern day hate was overblown.

You're right about the story, but I thought something about Carlisle's acting was better this time around. Maybe it's just the move from brooding and stoic to the airs Gabriel puts on as Dracula.
Only played the first one. It's great if you like God of War styled games.
But it's not. NOT. a Castlemania.
Want a good Castlemania game, play the Souls games.

Everybody shit on this game for no real reason. It's not a 4/10, it's a 6-7/10 even with all the problems they shipped it.
The real bullshit were the red spacemarine(in late game), they could add a payoff were we can kill a bunch of them with one hit, or torture them like chupracrabras. The death of death was also not well thinked, also the finale we got was shit (the real finale was very good) . Ah and the garden.
But. Combat was super, graphic wise was very nice, music were good, the belmont fight was epic.
If the people had done their job insted of complain and resign, we could have a great game, better than the first one

Stealth portions are WAY overblown in most reviews. Aside from that labyrinth section where you have to avoid a certain dude they're almost completely overlookable. Problem is modern day really adds nothing to the game and only emphasizes just how GOOD the castle areas are. Also criminally wasting Victor Belmont.

I found it to be cringe worthy. The "what is a man" quote was absolutely out of place. And when I thought Dracula was gonna destroy the crystal that powered the siege robot, he started puking blood. Why? Who that would be a cool thing to do?

The finale was that dracula kills alucard to kill lucifer, he didn't stop at last second.
After that he lose all will to fight. Ther order imprison him and torture him till the end of times.

I actually liked how long it was.
I didn't expect a modern (well, not anymore, I guess) AAA game to be that long.
Also, when I say "that long" I don't mean too long, I mean satisfyingly long. About 40 horus or so, like Dark Souls or The Witcher.

The stealth wasn't good, but holy shit why was it made into such a big deal?
They were basically puzzles, there was always one specific way you were supposed to solve them. They broke up the pace pretty neatly and the only truly TERRIBLE one was the very last, when you have to sneak through three Goliath Guards and time your mist perfectly to fly through the gate.

I would never touch that game even with a ten foot pole after playing the first one. That was the let down of the century. They fucking butchered everything that made Castlevania actually Castlevania (except the whip)

I thought Lords of Shadow 2 was a bomb?
Both lords of shadow games are terrible because they never stop insulting the player's intelligence. They try to appeal to teenagers and twenty-somethings, yet design the game for toddlers.
Whenever there's an objective to be accomplished, you can bet that everything will stop and the camera will slowly pan towards what you need to reach, with a trail of glowing lights pointing the way in case you forget. This never stops no matter how far you get in these games. I won't even get into the endless amount of QTEs.

But to this day I have yet to play a better Castlevania game than Curse of Darkness

lacks the god tier art direction of the first game but is entertaining enough.
First game was way better.
You could tell they rushed the ending when the studio's problems went out of control.
i love the second one a lot more than the first one, specially because of the voice acting and the castle
I played through the demos of 1 and 2. I had more fun with the demo of LoS 2 though.
Both games felt quite mediocore. Maybe they get better.
