Since I know y'all love your console wars, let's start a new one.

Which VR is the best and why?

With zero experience with any sort of VR I'm going to say the Vive since it has that whole room walking around shit and the controllers.
>>
VR is gimmicky garbage for idiots.

Please take that shit to Facebook, where they're trying to sell said garbage to their idiots.

Until Oculus Touch comes out, Vive has the lead. Having your hands in there is everything.
>>
>>333471459
Never even heard of the touch. I assume it's similar to what Vive has controller wise?

Yes.
>>
>>333472752
That seems immensely awkward to hold, what the fuck
>>
>>333472828
I found them more comfortable and accurate than Vive's wands.
>>
What do you guys think you'll prefer more: full-on VR games with moving and touching elements like Vive currently or "traditional" games with VR support (for example RSRBR with Oculus)? And which set would be better for the latter choice, or are both as good? The resolution for both are the same, Vive has the lens adjustment and I've no idea if there's a difference in tracking between the two.
>>
>>333473032
That so? Huh. But it still doesn't have that whole room thing like the Vive I guess. Aren't ya gonna knock shit over if you're waving your arms around at the desk?
>>
>>333473176
Think of it as the difference between Wii and the other consoles. The roomscale stuff is amazing, but most people most of the time still will want to be coach potatoes. I think first person games will be better in roomscale with touch controllers, and 3rd person games will be better sitting down with a traditional controller.

>>333473238
With the Touch, Rift becomes like a mini roomscale thing - the tracking volume is smaller than for the Vive, so you just stand in front of your desk, move the chair away, and try not to bang your head against the edge of the desk.
>>
>>333473176
I feel like the whole moving and touching stuff would be more fun but the problem is you need a lot of space for that. You either need to rearrange your room or set up a space solely for the VR. If you don't live by yourself or you live in a small apartment or something then there's a lot of practicality issues involved.

I feel like ideally games should have an option to use the full room thing if it's available to you but still let you play even if you don't have the space.

By the way, I've never seen this come up in a conversation but are all VR games compatible with each console/headset? It's not like all the VR games on Steam only works with the Vive or something right? They're kinda like different consoles, after all.
>>
>>333473550
>are all VR games compatible with each console/headset
That's a good question and I'd like to know myself too.
>>
>>333473550
>are all VR games compatible with each console/headset?
That depends on the developers. The headsets themselves work the same, but you need to adapt to different controls. And, of course, the appstore wars are coming.
>>
>>333473740
So basically, wait until the VR thing settles down and the console wars starts? See what the exclusives for each VR headset is?
>>
>>333474241
Wait until you see something you want to play, then buy the matching headset.
>>
>>333473238
>>333473489
Last I heard, Rift roomscale will be 12x12 feet, compared to Vive's 15x12
>>
>>333471201
Consoles have always tried to sell retards gimmicky garbage for idiots too, that doesn't change anything. Remember the Eye Toy? The Move? The fucking Kinect? VR is the new stupid fad to get a quick buck from stupid people.

How jealous are you? Be honest.

VR is a worthless gimmick, so not at all.
>>
>>333477060
Really? Shit, you should've told me that sooner.
>>
>>333477140
You should have listened sooner. Anyway, you're getting it for free, so at least you're not wasting money in it.
>>
>>333470802
Vive is obviously superior, just look for a way to try it if you really only want to buy it after you tried it.

Everyone says the displays appear lower res than the 1080p they are due to taking up your whole field of vision, but how blurry do they feel? Like 720 or 480?

I was pretty excited for VR until I realized just how gimmicky it is right now. I can wait a couple years for better software and second gen hardware.
>>
>>333478084
Rift and Vive are 1920x1200. I'd say it feels like 360p. And Gear VR with its 1440p screen feels like 480p.

>>

>tfw already had it for a month

Was pretty hyped. Initial experience was cool. Then it got sort of boring. No games is true. Even the launch content since Tuesday is wearing thin now. Shallow shit with little depth doesn't count. I'm more excited for Touch now, but I know it's probably going to be disappointing too after the first few days because of the lack of content. Gen 1 isn't worth it I say if you're not an early adopter willing to put up with this as well as the setup an other caveats. The real good shit begins gen 2.

So all the games are just tech demos, essentially? Yeah, I was worried about that. I've been keeping an eye on some Lets Players and stuff just to see what the VR was like for them and I noticed the games seemed rather simple.
>>
>>333480868
Don't get me wrong, there's some really fun stuff, but it's either tech demo type content, things that aren't as polished, or polished mini-game type content. Best to wait a year or at least until after Touch and PSVR launches to decide if you want to get into it probably. Right now it's disappointing how underdeveloped everything is.

>and 3rd person games will be better sitting down with a traditional controller.

Imagine your entire room floor being an RTS map you can walk around in.

Imagine selecting units and tracing routes with your hands so they follow them.

Imagine tiny fighters flying around you fighting each other while bomber formations cruise around the map dropping fury over the enemy base.

God fucking damnit where's my roomscale RTS mang, I need it.

I don't get this meme about VR being gimmicky.

My friend let me try his shit 600x800(or whatever it is) oculus dev kit and it blew my fucking mind out of the water.
Played first 15 mins of HL2 and even though I could see huge honeycomb pixels and I rushed/badly calibrated it, when I saw that first combine standing there it really felt like I was staring at a 6ft man in real life.

I get that people want games made purposely for VR and the controllers, but I really think the visor alone is going to drastically improve all my favourite games, and the idea of reading/movies while lying down, no peripheral distractions, makes me diamonds.
>>
>>333483451
I think the real meme is that vr is so amazing and will change everything.
>>
>>333478084

see the thing is that since it takes up your entire central vision you cant really look at it this way. if say theres a menu screen that apears about the size of say a 24" screen a couple feet away then yes i'd say the oculus dk2 like maybe a 360p display but in games like chronos or eve or basically anything you stop thinking about the pixels and just look at objects and thats what is really amazing
>>
>>333483617
Well I've experienced the effect first hand what it's like and I'm convinced. HL2 wasn't "completely changed", but; how I felt playing it was.

If I played with the controllers, and was physically throwing grenades and could for example run forward, look back over my should and shoot behind me at the same time, I think that would be an even bigger change. I'm not convinced about the controllers yet but I haven't seen all that much about them, whether they'll be akward or cumbersome etc.

And there's so much potential, I'm really looking forward to see what devs will come up with.
