PM only seems gimicky because everybody is used to all the gimicky shit in Melee. Peach can chaingrab falcon to hell and back pretty easily, Shiek dittos usually have an agreement in place to not chaingrab, low tiers have like one move they spam in neutral because it's the only decent one they have (Mario bair, Bowser up b OoS), GnW can't even L cancel some of his moves.

Marvel is dead for many reasons, that being one of them.
Marvel 2 however is looked back on fondly and still gets played. Its only drawback is that purists want only dreamcast mvc2 at a tournament, and playing on old and specific hardware is troubling and annoying (setting up, stick blue screens etc).

I've noticed that the first to get a shine gets a strong lead but I'm mostly concerned with reversal shines. Sometimes they would start a pillaring combo and I would wait for the right time to shine them just as they're coming for the next shine. So them chasing me down after a shine becomes an opening for me. Idk if I'm approaching this the right way

Falco has the easiest time to med level since he can short hop laser in neutral mindlessly against baddies than hits a hard wall since you can't just spam lasers anymore once you face people with good neutral games.
You can cheese people at low level with Marth until you face people with decent neutral. Marth is great for learning fundamentals but learning every MU can be tough.
Fox if you want to learn neutral and have a challenge no matter what skill level. Fox probably has to learn the most MU's in the game and requires dedication to see results.

I wouldn't, because the idea that everyone should be buffed up to Foxes level of bullshit is a meme and would only make the game weaker than it otherwise could be. Everyone should be nerfed to a level slightly below Sheik sans chaingrabs, or otherwise buffed up to that point.
Spacies can keep most of their crazy shit, but having the best close range neutral game, the most spammable fast projectiles, the attack with the quickest startup in the game and kill moves like Fox U-Smash and Falco Dair, all at once, is simply unjustifiable. It is not a positive thing for the game to have such a combination of advantages in single individual characters. "But you can combo them" is a bullshit disadvantage that results in tons of selective crap which makes matches more desperate and random.
