I think the first successful World war on game will be the first one to be able to utilize AI to create waves of hundreds of enemy soldiers coming at a small unit of 40 or so human players. You could have a few human players on the other team as well, commanding squads of AI to gain bonuses that allow them to use tanks or airplanes, which would also be available to the defending team whose commanders could use their bonuses to pace machine gun emplacements or mines anywhere within their defenses. It would most likely be centered around the defense and capture of hard points.
