Seriously. How do you fuck up this bad?

you can climb just about anything if you spam jump enough

>How do you fuck up this bad?
C'mon.
We're talking about Bethesda here.
>>
Is it me or do the mountains feel small in skyrim?
>>
>>333439613
At least it's not MGSV where shitty unclimbable mountains block your way and make traversal much longer and more annoying than it has any right to be
>>
none of that is a problem because mods can fix everything broken with the game
>>
>>333439806

But that's exactly how it is in Skyrim.

The game tells you to go kill a Dragon at Skyfall Reach or whatever. So you'd think that means you just climb the mountain. But since there's so many rocks and 70 degree slopes around the mountain, there's no way to climb it. Until you find that one path that is gradual enough to let you go up the mountain.
>>
>>333439792
they're just jagged hills that's supposed to look like distant majestic mountains but they don't because bethesda are lazy fucks when it comes to map making
>>
I think Skyrim wins the award for the game with the most unrealized potential.

I seriously hope that for TES VI, the developers will focus more Where it feels like in Skyrim, more attention was put into the books and dialogue. If you care that much about books and dialogue, just write a book guys. God damn.

You climb anywhere you fucking retard.

Do you know how I reached High Hrothgar in my first playthrough? I stole a horse from a nearby Stormcloak camp, forced the horse to climb all the way to the top of High Hrothgar with zig-zag climbing and spamming jump.

I didn't even know the 7000 step pathway exists, which you are supposed to access through Ivarstead.
>>
>>333442194

The fact that you have to use a horse or exploits to get somewhere just proves it is a problem. Dumbass.
>>
>>333440220
Are you retarded? There's paths for a reason. They created paths to reach each area.

I'd like to see you climb a pathless mountain on your own, you McFaggot

No, but really, you don't even need paths. Any mountain in this game can be climbed with a horse or by spamming jump

The game was heavily advertised as being an open world, exploration game. The fact that so much of the game is limited to set paths and instances goes against that.

Skyrim was actually a great game.

Fallout 4 was bethesda's biggest fuckup but you'll cowards still rant about how much you hated skyrim, cause most of you are kids whose first bethesda game was oblivion.

morrowind > skyrim > oblivion, fucking deal with it you weebshits.
>>
>>333446594
Skyrim was trash. Bet you haven't even played it or else you'd too would know it's trash.
>>
>story centers around a civil war
>can walk into either factions hub wearing their enemies uniform and no one gives a fuck
At least the mages guild in oblivion freaked out if you wore the necromancer robes
>>

>Skyrim was actually a great game.
I've tried playing it four times. And every time, I end up quitting around Riften. Because everything just comes down to talking to NPCs for hours, getting attacked by animals on the overworld or running into a linear cave. The most fun I had in the game was doing the Dwarven dungeons. And they're still just essentially a cave with a better design.

When does the game get 'good'? Is there some actual variety later outside Whiterun/Riften/Solitude?

>>
>>333447096
Sounds like every Bethesda game. I don't understand why people put nostalgia goggles on for Morrowind and Oblivion when they're essentially just the same thing albeit with marginally different mechanics.

The only draw these games have anymore is their ability to be modded. Beyond that they're all kinda garbage.

>marginally different mechanics
The entire experience is made and broken by your 'marginally different mechanics.'

Even if we call them that, Morrowind's customizable stat control and magic system, journal and marker system, crime system, house and faction relations, leveling scheme, lack of level and equipment scaling for enemies, inclusion of larger numbers of interior spaces / ancillary NPCs, dialog trees built from keywords, etc. all individually don't amount to a ton.

As a whole, they work together to make an experience that is significantly more engaging and interesting.

The vast majority of the caves in the game have a straight forward design. Then after defeating the boss, draughr, vampire, whatever, you unlock a hidden door that opens up right next to the entrance. In effect, most of the dungeons in the game are just giant circles.

Yes, the underground stuff is mostly linear with some exceptions like blackreach.

I'm laughing because you're retarded for complaining about linear caves.

The game is non-linear because you have a massive map full of shit to explore.

Dunno if you've ever experienced caves in real life but often they are quite linear.

What baffles me is why, if they're going to put the Clairvoyance spell in the game, they didn't just have a Farore's Wind-type spell that lets you teleport out of a dungeon instead of having to put a contrived back door to the entrance in almost every dungeon,
>>
>>333441027
You actually think it seems like Bethesda put a lot of effort into Skyrim's dialogue? I honestly don't know how you can think that.
>>
>>333448992

That would be 'unrealistic'. No really, the Elder Scrolls team is just focused too much on realism. This can be seen just from the weight limits and horrible menu system.

While a game like Dragon Quest had a spell to warp you out of a dungeon in fucking 1985. But that series doesn't take itself so seriously.
>>
>>333449406

I only assumed that since the focus of the game seems to be on story, lore and dialogue that it is what they focused on. If they didn't put much time and effort into it, then that's even more sad. Because it means they didn't put much focus on anything.

>quite literally has the least amount of story, lore, and dialog of the past three TES games before Daggerfall
And if you think the games need even less of those elements, you're the cancer that's enabling Bethesda to continue to be even more shit.
>>
>>333449749
after* fuck.
>>
>>333449749

Even if Skyrim had less lore to read than previous TES games, it still seems to be the focus over combat and world design. Or even play testing.
>>
>>333439613
Bethesda can't even into ladders. How do you expect them to handle climbing?
>>
>See that mountain? You can climb it!

>>
>>333449749

>>
>>333440220
Except you can climb mountains pretty well. Once I reached the end of a dungeon just by climbing the wrong way. Got a dragon word without facing the boss.
>>
>>333450731
That's ... exactly what he's saying. He's saying Morrowind and Oblivion have more of all those things than Skyrim.
>>
>>333439613
>Game gives you obvious road paths that spiral up and around the mountains like you would in real life
>HURR WHY CAN'T I JUST RUN UP THE SIDE OF THIS MOUNTAIN?
>>
>>333450881
Oblivion didn't have shit.
>>
>>333440220
Is there no climb skill in a game set in the mountains?
>>
>>333450940

The paths are not always obvious. Many times they don't show up on the map and you end up spending 20-30 minutes running around the entire mountain looking for a small side path. Then in other instances, there isn't a path at all. You end up having to go through a mine or a forsworn camp or whatever, which then comes out higher in the mountain.

And now this is where you change your stance to claim that's fine. But changing to a 'freedom is good' argument kills your original point that set paths are okay.
>>
>>333451681
>They're not always obvious
Maybe because you're a retard? I never had any problems getting to points where I needed to be.

While it's true some dungeons DO lead to other locations, those locations can still easily be reached from other points and alternate paths.

My stance hasn't changed. You're just fucking daft.

Hag's End.
>>
>>333452109

>I never had any problems getting to points where I needed to be.
I never did either. But it still doesn't change what I said.

And your backpedaling in your post just reaffirmed what I said. That sometimes you have to go through other areas to reach the one you were heading for.

>Maybe because you're a retard?
Maybe you're a retard for getting so angry?
>>
>>333452306
That's pretty much a secondary partition to another dungeon that just chains via an external cell space. The means to that location otherwise is the same for all others.

But by all means, even if that were the case that'd be a special case and not indicative of the entire fucking game. Dipshit.
