I think that between it, the Rift and PSVR, it's the best VR headset on the market, and with the amount of immersion the DK2 offered, it should be something pretty special.

I just don't feel like people will really get to enjoy the room scale VR; it's only a stand-in for a decent input method, and people just don't have the space right now. I'd rather there was a proper solution before it adds to feature fragmentation (Touch not shipping with the Rift is on them, though).

If you played every PC games available on steam in whatever the equivalent amount of time would be you would also end up with a few gems drowned out by an overwhelming sea of shit. Furthermore, going into every game so rapidly while skipping tutorials and speak and entertaining during cutscenes would even make a few games that would otherwise be well recieved look like garbage too.

I don't deny that there is a load of shit amongst the launch titles but some games, budget cuts, job simulator, hover junkers, space pirates, Xortax, do look promising. Not $800 promising probably but they show that VR can be good.

I was kind of hoping the launch of the rift and vive would mean more 3rd parties introducing modifications to existing games to allow the use of VR. Instead we are getting these tech demo games make is seem like VR is truly just hype.

I have only seen a few games that have these modifications and I was hoping modifications would come to games like Arma which seems like the perfect game to make use of the rift or vive.

>show me a console with a release lineup of of 30 good game.
The only problem I see with it is the fact that a lot of the games are pretty tech-demoy, and the very high cost of entry with a PC factored in means that rather than a burst of sales at the start, it's going to be a slow burner of sales. It remains to be seen how that affects development. Realistically until a lot of the big problems are sorted out, I don't see myself using it as anything more of an augumentation for games, rather than a tailored experience.

See, this always instantly puts me off of the whole VR+Motion controls is good idea.

No one can try to tell me that weakly waggling a plastic stick at things will ever in any way feel like the real thing.

Motion controls were a stupid gimmick when they first came out and they're still a stupid gimmick now. Combining them with a VR headset does not change that, in fact it feels like they are almost more of a gimmick as a result of the combination.

I gave the demo at the Microsoft store a try. The Vive is cool, but not $800 cool.

First was the demo where you just walk around a sunk pirate ship while a giant while swims by and waves its tail at you. Trying to walk around never felt comfortable since you can't escape the feeling of the think wire tether.

Space pirace simulator was pretty much a turret simulator. It was more of a motion controller test.

The most fun was the Google paint program. It felt more like sculpting than painting when you have three actual axis of drawing.
>>
>>333440095
I'm referring to walking not dodging, which can be done on any headset with positional tracking. The deal is that without a massive space there is no desire to walk. When actually playing a game, you will generally prefer to teleport all the time rather than just walk two steps and then teleport. Walking around often only happens if you have the space to do it.

>>
>>333440965

I made the mistake of buying this.

It's an interesting experience but there's blurry splotches in a few (30%) places of the lenses that ruin it. Tried out a couple of other units and the same problem, though in different areas.

With that kind of quality control I can't imagine anyone confidently buying a rift. Maybe people's eyes just gloss over it or something.

No, he said VR would fail before he even tried it. Wrote pieces on it before too. The Vive review was predictable. Just covering his own ass now. Filled with crying over the dumbest shit trying to find something to complain about.

It sounds like it basically never worked for him. The stations kept losing tracking signal of the goggles and controllers.
"It literally doesn't work" is a legitimate thing to complain about.

>>333446529
Maybe he is a retard. But he's an experienced PC gamer (been playing longer than most of /v/ has been alive,) so if he has somehow fucked up the setup you can bet a lot of other people will too.
>>

I think he didn't even try to set it up properly is what I came out of reading that review. He wanted it to fail.

He spent multiple paragraphs documenting his attempts to set it up. Obviously he might just be lying (after being paid off by the feminist illuminati 2D monitor manufacturers,) but the article does indicate a lengthy attempt to set it up correctly.

Not really. If you can get immersed sitting in front of a screen that takes up a small portion of your field of view then you can do the same with a keyboard. The oculus is the better porn machine. All Illusion games are patched with earlier Oculus SDK.

Oculus Rift will support earlier SDKs eventually, but if Vivers ever want hentai games they're going to have to beg for the mercy of the internet to patch them for them.

Only 1 Adult game has been announced for the vive. (Holodexx ) The rest are for Oculus only, or launch at an "undefined date" later.

SteamVR games are not vive exclusive, but oculus games give you access to both without waiting for hacks.

Pornhub.com/vr only supports the Oculus now.To use the same videos on vive, you have to download 2 different programs - a program to rip the videos, and then whirligig to play them.

Vivefags own up, Oculus has all the content, and the backing of the porn industry.

>>
>>333450160
No.
Even if this wave fails, they'll just try again in 20 years with new technology. And if this wave doesn't have the technology - it does, by and large - the one in 20 years will.

Prices will likely drop or stay the same as tech improves and competition expands - Lighthouse is supposed to be an open standard, after all - and we'll be getting better, cheaper VR headsets. The first time around, there was not remotely enough graphical processing power to make good VR. You couldn't even render a wireframe at adequate framerates, and the "Sword of Damocles", a VR headset from the time, could only render in wireframe, had huge lag, ran at 10 FPS and had to be suspended from the ceiling. We've come a long way, and I'm willing to believe that we DO have the technology today to provide an acceptable level of graphical fidelity while simultaneously maintaining an acceptable framerate. There's a good chance that PSVR, the Vive, and the Oculus Rift will all succeed in some way, and one or two may die off and never receive a second version, but I'm willing to put money on there eventually being a Vive 2 or whatever they call it.
>>
>>333450954
You want the Oculus then, because all hentai game mods are on the oculus, and have not, nor will they ever be on the vive.

The Oculus is more commercially backed of course. It has billions of dollars thrown at it. But the Vive is the more technologically superior VR product and essentially superior in every aspect to the Oculus, and I think that matters.
>>
>>333451271
what would you know about it?
>>
>>333451016
"Virtual desktop" type display through the headset looks terrible with everything that exists now. It's like you're looking at maybe a 720p monitor because of the resolution of the headset. You can't read anything close to normal sized text on the virtual display, let alone see the crisp texture details that a traditional OLED display would give you.

It's not just people that are "bought out" buddy. Everyone that is modding adult games or creating 2d waifu content is doing it on Oculus FIRST, and vive is an afterthought.

Vive is not the PS4. Vive is the Xbos, original. Technically superior to everything with no content, and fighting against an already established content base.

120Hz native would be wonderful, but lets face it PS4 doesn't have enough power to harness it without the games looking janky as shit or very simplistic.

It will be tough as it is achieving 90Hz native framerate on PS4 without sacrificing a metric fuckton of quality. The PS4's GPU is equivalent to a 7870 with optimization.

The average joe might not care about the graphical downgrade unless it is extremely obvious.

Reprjection/time warp should not be a crutch to rely on, native frame rate must be around 90Hz.

Reprojecting 90Hz up to 120Hz would look smoother compared to 90Hz native on PC. But compared to 120Hz native it obviously would not be better as there would be plenty of missing details since it doesn't fetch a new render.

PSVR is nice for its price, it is the price bracket Oculus was targeting before going full retard. HTC Vive at the moment is obviously the best option overall not taking into account cost.

None of the HMDs at the moment look good enough FoV and Resolution wise, but that is as much as our current hardware can handle unless you make the HMDs far too cost prohibitive not even taking into account the cost of the HMD which will require a high end multi GPU setup.

I don't even think are any mass produced 4K OLED screens that can do 90Hz at the moment. And even then it will be barely enough since you need around 8~16K per eye depending on how far you stretch the FoV to increase the dpi to acceptable levels.
>>
>>333435268

>Given which, the obvious question is: how high does VR resolution need to go before it’s good enough? I don’t know what would be ideal, but getting to parity with monitors in terms of pixel density seems like a reasonable target. Given a 90-degree field of view in both directions, 4K-by-4K resolution would be close to achieving that, and 8K-by-8K would exceed it.

Neko Works started dev-ing Nekopara on Oculus, first, though. Dig through the tweets. Vive is an afterthought again.

Glad you're able to see the light, anon.

I wanted the Vive because it's the technical superior device, but all content begins existing on the Oculus, at the very least, and content is 95% equal when touch controllers are released.

Don't get me wrong, I wanted to get the vive because I have glasses, but the layout of adult game and waifu content is clearly 150% in favor of the oculus, so i'll just wait until those foam insert people can truly make my oculus comfy because Palmer is a nigger and took out my foam insert.
>>
>>333454591
Yep. But you have to find a way to rip the videos from the site ( Jdownloader ). You can play any sort of videos / content with the vive. Not natively though, you have to fuck with everything to make it work.

And all the actual cool content is going to be adult games, which are oculus first 95% of the time.
