Don't pay too much attention to the top sellers list on Steam, it's bullshit.
It's especially obvious that it's bullshit when you consider that the top sellers is supposedly not based on the total number of sales but the total amount of money made from those sales and yet you see $60 games that sell millions being listed below $5 indie shit that only sells 20k.

Anyone who wants to try out the series will more likely try the cheaper ones first. Those that are tired of the series (understandable since they are almost yearly now) won't buy it. So that leaves the fans who still want more.
Compare that to Gungeon that looks pretty cool and fun, and brings more things to the table even if it is also a worn genre
I pirated both Nuclear Throne and Gungeon this week and I gotta say Gungeon feels weak as hell in comparison. Shooting doesn't feel nearly as good as Nuclear. When I get paid next week I'm gonna actually give money to Nuclear because of it.

This argument may have stood up in 2006 when we had the chance to push back against DLC and add-one n sheer it. Now, the cost of a full AAA game is $90.00. You still have the option to buy the base model at $60. At some point, publishers will hear your cries and stop nickel and diming you with season passes in exchange for a $100 new game price point.
