If I'm in the middle of the pack fighting for 15th to 3rd, while first and second are aliens it's all the better feeling. I play a lot of sims, and thats kind of a hard question. The cars are all pretty understeery, which makes sense for a lot of them, seeings how they're FWD shitboxes or 80's tanks. But then you've got weird shit, like the not-Viper being unable to drift if you hammer the gas in the middle of a turn, and not maintain a drift once you get one started (though I think that might have something to do with how the transmissions work, upshifting when you want to hold a gear). If they'd made the tires a bit grippier it would have much improved the realism.

The closest I can think of is cross-country or long trips with bros in the Crew. Unfortunately it has UPlay but if you play with friends it's really not that bad. They redid the lighting and weather so the game looks gorgeous on PC.

The Alpine is great but way too fast compared to the other 60's cars, the R5 is neat but becomes lolcantturn on pavement, and the 208 T16 is just stupid and awesome. Overall a nice update, I just wish I could use the 208 T16 on the gravel stages as well for MAXIMUM HEKTIK.

Also the way that the road slightly guides you is extremely wrong, it just magically pushes you sideways like you were driving on a patch of magic ice. Even if you're "stopped".

I enjoy games like Ridge Racer Type 4 and Out Run 2, so there's nothing inherently wrong with abstract physics in an arcade racer, even with glitches like that pseudo-drift-burnout (I can picture it vividly). However, it has to be predictable and reasonably intuitive, or else it's just broken or lazy.

its not just cars, a track and a race to win.
its about powerups or boxes to have shit like weapons or shields, rubberbanding AI because they cant into make an AI race its own game like a skilled player, not a race at all like that soccer car game, or stunts like trackmania. thats not racing motorsport, that is just a game about cars doing something else besides normal racing motorsport.
Thats why sims are about simple racing and the other vidya is about fanta sea entretainment.

Kind of an /o/ blog here, but do most of you guys prefer the semi-sims over the super arcade games i.e. Need for Speed? I grew up playing MC3 and it's the only racing game that's ever truly hooked me into hours of game play.
Now that I'm a big boy and I drive, I'm immensely proud of my '03 TL Type-Sthat I didn't buy, even if it is a shit car. I'd like to verse myself with cars while playing vidya but I just can't find sim-style racing games interesting, at all.

If you can you should buy both, Assetto Corsa has better handling and physics system but everything else is lacking, even though I consider it a better game I still go to Project Cars to play online multiplayer, also Project Cars has a better variety of racing cars, people will tell you can mod in cars in Assetto Corsa but believe me that's not a good idea, modded cars are usually very low quality compared to the official cars.
