Was Ocarina of Time the first open world game?
>>
See that mountain?

You can climb it
>>
That would be LoZ
>>
>>333402371
No, the original Zelda was.
>>
>>333402371
actually it was e.t. for atari
>>
It was Pacman you fucking cucks
>>
Depends on what you consider open world. The original LoZ might be considered open world. Hell, Metal Gear might be able to be considered open world too since you have the entire base to roam around given you have the right security cards.
>>
Atari Adventure

No. Daggerfall did A LOT bigger openworld couple years earlier, and there was some early attempts even in 80s.
>>
>Sidequests
>Different races
>Dungeons
>Towns
>Horseriding
>A vast open world to explore
>A mountain to climb

It's basically Nintendos Skyrim

Does a game really have a "world" if it's procedurally generated?

>>333404013
>can adopt a dog (temporarily)
>can kill a dragon
>can become engaged to a fish woman.
>can ride a horse and have mounted sword combat (in v 1.0)
>can control the sun and moon themselves.

It's true...
>>
>>333402371
first 3d open world game? maybe
>>

Dragon Slayer came out before Zelda, and it's open in the same way.

Yes. Also, only the dungeons are procedurally generated, AFAIK.
>>
One thing that Zelda does , some old action adventure games did and many don't do was to make every thing you see explorable. Being able to enter every building you see it's nice. As much as I like GTA, not being able to see interiors and having cardboard buildings and such detracts from the exploration. I'd rather have a smaller fully explorable world than a big world with tons of cardboard houses.

Dagger fall isn't procedurally generated you retard
>>
>>333404954
Was there really mounted combat in oot?
>>
>>333406108
If you glitch the game so that Link can be swordless by saving after Ganon knocks away your sword, yes. But there's nothing to kill. Except Big Poes and maybe mini poes or tektites.

> console game
probably not. every breakthrough comes to PCs first, not even memeing
>>
>>333406242
It's funny how Hyrule Field had less monsters in it after Ganondorf takes over.
>>
>>333407575
Looks like you never went to field at night.
>>
>>333407280
This is incredibly wrong
>>
>>333402651
Probably not the absolute first but definitely most influential. TLoZ basically inspired an entire generation of adventure game developers.

Echho the dolphin was

Metal Gear Solids, The Thief games.

Dishonored

Ganondorf cleaned up Hyrule field while the royal family let dangerous monsters roam it. Ganondorf confirmed for best king. Also... Notice how Gerudo valley has no monsters? (Only the abandoned temple across the desert had any monsters, the village itself didn't)
>>
>>333402371
It's not an open world game

It's a hub style map that blocks off just about everything until you clear it yourself. Only until you become an adult can you go anywhere from that new phase of the game, but you've already been to those places before. It's less open world than the zelda games before it, and that's just zelda.
>>
>>333402371
No that was the first legend of zelda
>>
>>333411540
the latest fallout i think
>>
>>333402371
No the original all legend of Zelda was
>>
