Why not make an entirely new game in the same world but largely unrelated to the story of the original, ala Link Between Worlds, if you absolutely have to have the FFVII name attached to it? They should make another main series titled FF game, featured in the same universe as 7, but thousands of years in the future.

Initially in DC he's portrayed as a mysterious but loyal and determined anti-hero who's going to save the world, I imagine Gackt was told and got the impression Genesis would be conveyed and treated as such consistently.
