Princes were brought up to run that shit after you died. The health and wealth of the kingdom required a strong, worthy successor.
Princesses were something you gave to foreign nations to smooth over relations for 20 years. Why would you stuff your daughter's head full of all your military and economic secrets just to give her over to your historic and future enemy? The only time a princess would be sent through the "You're going to run this shit some day" training is if the king had no sons and would never have sons.
