Not really. You have to understand the role of the archivist in contemporary fiction. The body of work is the record of a person's existence rather than the subject of those pieces. Even in real life this is how it works, ex. Renaissance painters and sculptors.
Often times in modern tragedies the photographer is the one that dies and their work is used to bring the subject back to that moment because while the picture is a record of the subject, the subject inside that picture is the only record of the person that took the picture.
From a credit pay off perspective, if they do fill the credits with pictures that Prompto takes, if Noctis dies that makes the credits about Noctis rather than the player robbing it of the possibility of dual thematic framing.
More than anything else Prompto, due to being a support character rather than the protagonist, lacks the ability to rob the player of their time playing the game displayed in the pictures.
