If I had to choose, Vive.

I really don't expect VR to get much better besides improved resolutions, less input lag and maybe eventually becoming wireless in five years
From what I got out of playing with Oculus in a demo, the tech is really good but the price is ridiculous, VR just needs to become cheaper and people will move towards it

I went with the Vive, sit-down experiences are great and all but the Gear VR already does those at a fraction of the price (disregarding the price of the phone)

I have the room to spare for the Vive 3m X 4m so I went with that.
>>
>>333361863
My prediction. VR will fizzle out for gaming when people don't realize that it's becoming a chore to play games with VR, and this initial high buy-in will filter out those not serious about it. It will catch on huge for porn, virtual tours, virtual trips, education, and sports. You'll then find most households having a couple of cheaper $100ish sets (think Samsung Gear VR or similar) around for these purposes.

For this shit to run i would need to buy a complete new system + the VR shit which might come to around 2000 Euros

>to justify having a slightly better time playing flight sims/racing games.
That's the biggest illusion and misconception when it comes to VR. Actual hardcore sims are beyond shit when you're using VR, because they're meant to be played with expensive "home cockpit" setups made for example with wheels + pedals + shifters +multiple screens + possibly headtracking (or sticks/yokes + pedals + throttle controls and similar shit if you're talking about flight sims) and it's extremely important that you're actually able to see your physical controllers so you can actually interact with them, something which is impossible to do properly when you have a shitty screen strapped on your head.
You'll get a far superior and even a more immersive and realistic experience just with a stick + pedals + trackIR + 3 monitor setup if you want to play flight sims then you will with any VR shit.
>>
>>333366626

>>333366721
that's totally wrong

HMD does all of that and way better

I never have to look at my hotas when playing flying games. And if they really push VR they could always put common devices as models in the game so they match, or just scan them using lasers

most of the interaction in sims like A-10c is the virtual cockpit using mouse which would be awesome in VR
>>
>>333361246
WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!
>>
>>333361367
?
>>
>>333368969
Exactly.
The DCS devs are even designing a special VR interaction system that lets you press buttons and shit in the virtual cockpit by just looking at them.

The biggest issue for flightsims in VR is the resolution. The next generation may feature higher res screens and possibly eye tracking and foveated rendering which will make shit look and run way better.
>>
>>333368969
>I never have to look at my hotas when playing flying games
Then you've got a shit setup. Unless you're controlling everything from 5 different shift menus, you're going to need to move your hands occasionally. In some super simplistic sims, maybe you can get away with never looking.

Here's a pretty simple example to understand. Nobody, in the history of sim gaming, has ever actually used an on-screen wheel for anything more than decoration. They don't update fast enough to tell you how close to center you are, and in a lot of games, they're completely inaccurate because of incorrect ratios or poor coding. People absolutely rely on seeing the wheel in front of them to return to center.

> they could always put common devices as models in the game so they match
Absolute absurdity, the licensing costs alone would bankrupt most of these devs. And it'd be useless too, because the system generally has no way of knowing where your hands are unless you're wearing gloves, or how close your controller is unless you set it up every time.

>>The DCS devs are even designing a special VR interaction system that lets you press buttons and shit in the virtual cockpit by just looking at them.
That sounds fucking awful.

Do people not understand that head tracking isn't eye tracking? Trying to hit some tiny switch that'll be about 2 pixels across with your face seems like the most labor intensive approach imaginable. Just buy a fucking trackball if you can't see where your mouse is.

>>
>>333370558
>>hotas means hands on throttle and stick
Yes, but you have to move your fucking hand off the throttle occasionally for less important functions.

>as if companies wouldn't want free advertising of their products
By letting a company have a choice of available models in a menu? This isn't an endorsement, and even if it was, a giant like Logitech would want to be involved in the process so their stick isn't outperformed by others, which means more testing, and more costs.

You've got this delusional idea of companies just willingly letting you use the likeness of something because it's somehow an advertisement.

All of this is fairly moot when having the "actual" control sitting in front of you is pretty meaningless anyway, sticks and throttles have the same general shape and being able to see a representation of buttons is completely worthless compared to actually being able to see your buttons.

So someone in an earlier thread mentioned that Will had left Tested to do some weirdass VR show. Having a DK2, I was checking out the new stuff in Home and noticed that its first episode was already up, so I figured, hey, why not check 'er out? Turns out it's actually pretty damned entertaining. The models spaz out a lot, but it's a surprisingly tight operation aside from that. Frankly, I think that's charming and it rather agrees with Will's comparison of the show to Max Headroom, but YMMV.

Those of you with a headset should give it a shot. Those of you who plan to get one, make a note and hopefully they'll keep 'em coming. The rest of you, I don't know. I guess just keep banging rocks together or whatever it is you faggots do all day.

Something you can physically see, which is pretty important when it can wind up anywhere on your mousepad. If you want to stumble all over your desk whenever you want to click on a button, that's your choice, but sane people would rather have a higher screen resolution and the ability to see their hands.

Basic logic should have taught you that this was a total waste of time product, but I guess you drank too much of the kool aid.

Do you not understand how vision works or something? Whenever you need to reach your mouse, you just check it's location in your peripheral vision. This doesn't exist when you slap on some goggles.

>>
>>333371961
>my mouse barely moves an inch in flight simulator games.
Your sensitivity is that high?
>Plus valve peripherals already have touchpads on them
Complete non-sequitur, they don't produce sim gear and have absolutely zero relation to the topic.
>do you look at your controller every time you press a button?
And false equivalence, nice. I know it's hard to remember what we're talking about, but it's the state of moving your fucking hands from one control scheme to another. Controllers and flight sticks are fine, you have one position. It's not so simple when you think, "oh, I want to move my mouse now", or "oh, I want to hit P on my keyboard". Instead of a quick glance, you have to move off and find home row.

But hey, let's say you're a genius who knows within a millimetre where everything on his desk is just by feel.

You're still ignoring the simple fact that small screens are always going to be vastly more expensive than a monitor that's twice the size. Resolution is king for sim games, 3D has zero impact.
>>
>>333372183
>I know a few people that want it purely to watch movies in a dumb fake theatre.

They make the Vive and steamvr so pretty much everyone will have either a steamvr controller or a steam controller with a trackpad if they don't like using mouse in-game.

My mouse is sitting literally right next to my joystick and it's never been a problem. The whole point of cockpit sims is that you can interact with the cockpit itself instead of finding weird key bindings. I barely ever use my keyboard except for F-keys like changing the camera.

anyway I'm done arguing with you, you clumsy nigger. Clearly you just don't like VR.

Preordered the Rift, but that was before I'd heard about the Vive having a larger FOV (which has always been a huge deal, for me), and THAT was before I'd heard about the Rift/Touch dual camera system having tracking issues when you move your hands too quickly.

Probably gonna cancel and order a Vive. I really, really do not care about roomscale, despite having the space if I move a couple things in here. I'd check it out, but I don't fucking understand why so many people want to be bound to a small box in every goddamn game. I just hope the Vive controllers get Steam Controller-esque customization. Or do they already have it?

They could still try to market a cheaper version at mobile users, they seem desperate for a decent tracking solution. It is expensive.

It could complement the Oculus rift for roomscale as their tracking is more prone to occlusion with a standard setup using oculus touch and two cameras on the same desk. Stem doesn't have that issue as it doesn't require line of sight.

Plus you can track limbs facilitating IK. I think it is a better solution than vive's tracking system. Those trackers look a little bulky and unwieldy though.

The "fun" factor is going to reduce your top resolution by about 40%, and the required framerate so you don't throw up will reduce it even further.

What you gain in "immersion" is absolutely nothing compared to what you lose.

As other sensible people have said I'll wait. Lost interest in rift since its shipping problems and then completely lost interest when facebook (who totally won't take and sell every bit of data they can get from rift, like they do every other service) acquired it. Vive looks promising but again, I'll wait a few generations until all the problem are sorted and the price is reasonable. Also, I'm still waiting to see if these devices will absolutely fuck up your eyes or not.

retard, its about the way they distribute the weight of the device not the looks. both htc and oculus have over and around straps while sony gets the job done without the overhead strap. also their way leaves more room around the ear for larger headphones.

3D porn games are easily the absolute worst out there. You've got a couple of incredibly lazy companies who put out a new title every couple of years and a bunch of 12 year olds who are actually interested in watching dull animation loops.

All of the actual fapping games are 2D, we're talking a dozen titles monthly.

PSVR
pros
>cheaper cost, much more affordable especially for those whom already own a PS4
>Likely to have more higher budget titles
>OLED panel is RGB not pentile so higher sub-pixel count
>Can achieve 120Hz refresh rate
>Drivers for PC coming out making it an attractive option for early adopters on PC with a tighter budget and slightly lower system specifications than recommended for Vive and Rift

cons:
>lower FoV than Vive
>lower display resolution than Vive
>Tracking system nowhere near as good as Vive, particularly for roomscale
>PS4 is very weak compared to recommended spec system requirements on PC. Games will have to sacrifice a lot of quality to achieve 90Hz
>Cannot mod games on PS4 or access games outside of the PSN store
>PS4 requires ongoing online subscription fee for online play
>lacks front facing camera for roomscale

I have rift preorderes but I'm cancelling it. Literally nothing looks worth playing, all the games on rift and vive are shovelware that isn't even worth their own cost.

It's possible. I had a huge bald patch on both sides of my head and massive amounts of diffuse hair loss on my head (random streaks). It all started when I was 19 when I purchased my ATH-M50's. I was a loser who stayed in all day playing video games. I wore those heavy headsets for 3 YEARS and by the time I was 22 I had so much hair thinning all over. I think the compression of the headset pressing against my scalp (my thick glasses didn't help) caused my hair thinning. I stopped wearing them and purchased ear buds and started taking cold showers every day along with daily exercise to improve blood flow to my scalp. My hair is fairly restored and still improving.
>>
>>333389043
Honestly I wear headphones all the time and just before I hit 30 recently, my hair started to thin out on top of my head. Just assumed it was bad luck really seeing as nobody else in my family was like this.

>>
>>333390287
There's talk of Sony releasing some shit for PC, probably years down the line for the latest OS only.
Of course the retards think there'll be a fan made driver like the DS3 and 4.
It is by far the weakest headset, the list says Vive this and that but that's also almost the same specs as the Rift. The PSVR is just a shitty budget Rift that only works for a shitty system at the moment. It also has areally shitty tracking system, using actual lights and a camera instead of the Vives cool laser tracking and the Rifts IR.

I have legitimate doubts about how valid that thing is, on one hand I got a 4Gb 670 that runs CSGO maxed out past 300 fps, but at the same time will kinda have a bumpy ride (45-60 fps) on skyrim with a heavy ENB and a shit load of mods
