And it works. The problem isn't the tech this time it's the games.
>>
>>333337731
Yeah but even if the games end up not being shit someday, it's a moot point if you don't reserve a fairly sizable amount of room specifically for it, and it has to be where you put your desktop for obvious reasons.

Job Sim is free with the Vive, Flight Control isn't worth shit, Tilt Brush is the kind of Tech Demo that people are buying this shit for.

Just started watching the youtube video, seen 2 games so far, looks pretty underwhelming. Anyhting interesting? Whenever I watch the Node guys play with Vive it looks fun.

Yeah, that's why there's no games where the only movement option is teleporting. Not because people would end up barfing their guts out. Not at all!

Just use existing games like Mirror's Edge or WarThunder.
Decent games won't come out and take full advantage of VR before a year or so.
>>
>>333339031
This
People want their shit now so converting regular games to use VR gimmicks will keep people buying/hyped until actual games start coming out for it.
>>
I don't understand how teleporting is any better or takes away any less than joystick controls
>>
>>333339141
Hover Junkers and Fantastic Contraption are literally the only games I've actually seen that make me want VR and they're already out. What else is coming?
>>
>>333339715
It's only a thing because moving with the joystick while your body isn't moving causes some people to get sick. Teleporting around doesn't cause as much sickness.
>>
>>333339883
Those people should grow up and git gud then
>>
>>333339715
They're doing it because regular control WILL cause motion sickness on most people, and there is simply no way around that.
>>
>>333339883
>>333340098
Everything I've heard the GB guys and some others say is that joystick control is preferable to the teleporting shit. Apparently a lot of the PSVR games use joystick control.
>>
>>333340240
I think joystick controls are better but I can see why it's not used at the moment. Devs are too scared to blow their chance at millionair status because they got bad press from making some CNN anchor camera sick on camera or something. Once they realize the only people buying this shit are the kind of gamers willing to spend $1500 on games and it's not going to be some kind of Wii-like revolution they'll shape up and put in some god damn controls.
>>
>>333340474
>they got bad press from making some CNN anchor camera sick on camera or something
If anything I would only think that's good press and will get more people to buy.

I haven't tried it yet myself but I feel like I would prefer joystick control. Having said that, I wonder how badly the preview of today's Vive stuff is going to affect sales of the Rift. This makes it look like an absolute joke. My biggest gripe is how expensive the games themselves are for both headset stores. The Rift's prices seemed like even more of a ripoff than the things on Steam.
>>
>>333340946
The only reason I could see to currently buy a Rift over a Vive is if Gabe Newell raped your dog or something.
>>
>>333339883
GB didn't have any problem with that.
Even jumping 50 meters high wasn't a problem.

Fags need to get good.
>>
>>333339883
What causes motion sickness if FPS drop below 90 according to Valve.
no bullshit about moving.

I don't get motion sickness using an escalator.
>>
>>333341359
>I don't get motion sickness using an escalator.
Because you're moving.
>>
>>333341464
Not really
You just stand on it and it makes you move forward without lifting a feet, just like VR.
>>
>>333341629
Yes really. You are literally moving. You feel the movement in your inner ear match what your eyes are telling you.
>>
>>333338265
I'm gonna start clearing my living room as we speak, shipping in May which isn't very far off.

Recently got a set of 2.1m light stands and 1/4" ball mounts So I am all set just need to free up a fair amount of space in my room to squeeze 2.4m x 5m.

I wish I had 5x5m space in the house or even 3x3m. 2m feels a bit narrow.
>>
>>333341174
do you have to use Vive with Steam? I would have no real use for it then.
>>
>>333341781
No.
>>
>>333341781
No.
You can use it however you like and content you develop on it stays yours.
>>
>>333341828
>>333342010

>content you develop on it stays yours

whose would it be exactly?
>>
>>333342103
Well if you develop shit on the Rift their terms of service says it's Facebooks.
>>
>platform that requires $2,000 of computer hardware
>surprised there's no developer interest

if they could get away with charging $250 for a game, i'm sure you'd have greedy faggots like indie devs and Turtle Rock offering to develop for VR.

big publisher accountants see the audience is far too small for them to turn a profit
>>
>>333342301
>surprised there's no developer interest

>What is Valve at GDC
They know their shit and are showing devs the applications of such technology.
>>
>>333342214
I'm still amazed that valve can still end up the lesser of two evils

guess I won't be bothering with a rift unless it gets a worthwhile exclusive implying any VR headset will get a worthwhile exclusive
>>
This Will Smith thing won't be for everyone but it's cool as shit. Would be awesome to hear commentary from devs as they walk through the level in VR and manipulate objects.

Why isn't there a VR console? It's all shit you need to plug into existing stuff. I suppose it's because it would be obscenely expensive otherwise?

Honestly, I wouldn't but a VR headset unless I'm certain it's going to work on my current computer. I can imagine all the ridiculous technical difficulties that can occur even if your specs are right already.
>>
>>333342912

Just wait for Apple to put out a "just werks" product for retards like you.
>>
>>333343026
I said I wanted something that wouldn't be bogged down by technical difficulties, why the fuck would I go for Apple?
>>
>>333343193

Because running things on a PC is obviously too difficult to wrap your neanderthal brain around.
>>
>>333342912
>Why isn't there a VR console?
Because that's a PC/it still requires the same amount of CPU/GPU power. Building a VR-dedicated console makes as much sense as buying a Steambox.

I doubt the technical difficulties would be that bad by now since they've had so much time to bug test it already and it's only going to get better.

These mobile looking "apps" on the Steam front page are just embarrassing.
>>
>>333342912
Because normal people would rather spend five minutes in google as opposed to $500 dollars.
>>
>>333343283
Now that I think about it... why not do that? Just bundle a Steam box and Vive together and sell it as a package.
>>
>>333343329
Selfie tennis and that toy car game were by far the worst looking games GB showed on stream today.

>>
>>333343348
I can think of two reasons. For one, the price would probably scare people off even more since it'd come in around 1800-2k. The other is the form factor/cooling, you'd likely need something around a midtower at least and as far as I remember, Steamboxes came mostly in mini-ITX and didn't have as much power without being absurdly expensive compared to something you could build on your own.

You can use a Cardboard as a poverty-spec Rift, but its not really comparable to the expensive machines. But it costs basically nothing, so who cares.

>>
>>333345850
Yeah, its pretty good. Wouldn't say you really feel like you're in the game, because of the lag and limited fov, but its still fun. First time I launched New Vegas in 3D I was sorta underwhelmed by the 3D, but then I raised my weapon.
>>
>>333346816
Wait, for Google Cardboard? I thought that was for smartphones only?
>>
>>333347008
Yeah, there's software to stream video to it and other software to force a game to render side by side 3D. Uses the gyro in the phone for head tracking. Really ghetto technology, but it works pretty good for something that cost me 20 bucks to make.
