The combat is a lot more nuanced than people are giving it credit for. I'll admit at first I thought the same thing, but after coming back to it and experimenting a bit with the airstepping and different attacks with each weapon and whatnot I found it to have a lot more depth than what I'd thought. You can cancel lots of animations and sidesteps and back flips dodge a lot of attacks if you time them (which isn't too hard honestly)

It's not like they can make major overhauls in just 6 months when they need to focus on optimization, patches notwithstanding. IMO it's not even that bad, input lag and button holding aside. It's just really barebones because the iron giant is a large, slow moving target, it's the only thing there is to fight, not having party members alone removes a lot of options and the weapons you get are pretty basic aside from the shield's perfect blocking and the Broadsword getting the Tempest move from the demo added into it's moveset.

Combine that with the fact that box sales prices dropped about $50 within the first few months, the dead servers and even loyal players bitching about a total lack of "content" it's only reasonable to believe that it's bleeding money. Man, what I want is FF to become lulz like it used to be. I admit, FF7 was my first RPG; but, the reason I liked it was that it was lulzy. Cloud wasn't emo, he was just retarded and forgot stuff. He did squats, tried to buy a guy porn but ended up getting a vitamin supplement kit and received a diamond tiara for it, rode a motherfucking DOLPHIN, got in a small tub with tons of burly men, walked in on a guy using the bathroom, wore a thong, went on a roller coaster game when the world was about to end, played video games in an arcade, stole Tifa's orthopedic underwear in the flashback, screwed up a parade while, bought a Villa for lulz, commandeered a submarine, and other shit. Okay so you don't know. The "assets" had roughly 5 times the number of polygons than player characters had. It's why loading took so long and why the game would only run on a PC instead of PC and PS3, which it was supposed to do.
They failed to make a game that could run on the PS3. That's why it was an alpha version of the game. It didn't run on the PS3 because most of the staff sat in their office reading manga instead of working on the game, most notably the head producer.
It's logical for them to keep their multi-million dollar failure breathing because it allows them to at least pretend that they are capable of making successful big budget games. Once XV is released they're going to stop pushing content into the game and it's going to die. It's already happening.
