It was a budget game at launch but it's pretty feature-packed by now. Speaking as someone that got it for £24 at launch though, so I could understand American salt over the prices, but it's not like us euros have had it good in the past.
I think a lot of the reasons for the pricing differences stem on the marketing - in the US Splatoon has marketing presence, whilst here it had almost nothing at all.

nah. I had fun with Bayo, Tropical Freeze, Nintendoland, NSMBU, Rayman, pikmin, 3D world, hyrule warriors, and splatoon. Some of these I got to play co-op with my sister before I left for college, which was cool because we hardly got a chance to play vidya together as kids for various reasons. So I don't regret buying it at launch even.
Besides, 300 bucks 4 years ago is really a drop in the bucket, it's not a sum of money worth expressing regret about or anything.

put maybe 5 hours into W101 before I dropped it.
Hyrule Warriors I have over 300 hours in, but it's not a spectacular game.
Mario Maker I have maybe 15 hours in, I'm still pissed about the lack of Mario Bros. 2
Xenoblade X I beat the story and did a lot of the sidequests and all the companion quests as well.
Kirby Rainbow Curse I 100%ed
Pokken I'm still playing but it's nothing special.
Pikmin 3 I spent about 15 hours with.
as for Bayonetta, I already had 400 hours in the first game on the 360. I put about 45 hours into Bayonetta 2 which is all it took to 100% it. I put another 80 into the first game.

Bayonetta was my absolute favorite game of the last console generation, and I always get the Nintendo system first out of any console gen because Nintendo usually has the best exclusives, and I can't miss out on a new Smash game.

Bayonetta 2 feels B-team as fuck, I hated the weapons compared to the first game, I hated the bosses, I hated the lack of difficulty compared to the first game, and I even hated the level design compared to the first game.
W101 I couldn't stand. the camera and perspective sometimes made me physically ill, I could never tell what was going on, I found the controls to be awkward beyond belief, the game constantly has GARBAGE minigames like the first person segments and the fucking spaceship that interrupt the action, and Pink and Green ruined pretty much every cutscene in the game.

I played them back-to-back since I got the euro special edition, and felt Bayo 2 had much tighter chapters - the space harrier inspired chapter and runner chapter are great examples of how much better Bayo2 is improved compared to Bayo1, although it is shorter as a result you do get more of those challenge areas afaik.

Maybe it's just me having not put a ridiculous amount of time into the first Bayonetta, but I preferred the weapon variety in B2 over the first. The twin swords were awesome, the chainsaws were a lot of fun, the shotgun-scythe was probably my favorite. The bow and the hammer were kind of underwhelming though, at least to me.
I also liked the more varied levels in B2, especially when it comes to the colors. Everything in B2 felt like it popped a lot more than in B1. I can't say too much as to the challengemainly because I haven't gotten anywhere in B1 on Hard modebut I think it provided a decent enough challenge for the most part, and all without insta-kill QTEs either.
As for W101, it's one of my favorite games of all time. I personally thought the gameplay was stellar, even if there are a few too many non-combat sections that don't work as well as they should. The music was incredible, the controls were fluid and satisfying, and outside of the gamepad sections, there were only one or two times when the camera ever bothered me, since the entire game is built around that fixed perspective.

I don't mind if you personally preferred the first one, but I can't fathom the thought process of Bayonetta 2 being considered a "b-team" game. It's very well polished and follows almost all of the philosophies of the first game. I beat both games back to back and prefer 2 for the color palette, weapons and music (also short haired Bayo and playable Rodan), but honest to god, I can play either game interchangeably and still find enjoyment.

Bayonetta 2's lack of difficulty is what really killed it for me.
Bayonetta 1 on Normal is like Bayonetta 2 on Hard. Bayonetta 1 on Hard is like Bayonetta 2 on Infinite Climax. Bayonetta 1 on Infinite Climax doesn't even have an equivalent in Bayonetta 2.
beyond that the outright blandness of it. Bayonetta 1 had a lot of great mindbending environments like Paradiso Sea of Stars, 2 has barebones purple rocks most of the time.
also 2's weapons are far worse than the first game's. they're more diversified in moveset, but they're also much less versatile and useful overall, and are usually split up into slow and strong or fast and weak.
in fact the only weapon in 2 I actually really liked using was the default pistols and the chainsaw legs.
Bayonetta 2's music is much worse. I love Moon River Climax but it's used in the game like 3 times, Tomorrow Is Mine is awful compared to Fly Me To The Moon and Mysterious Destiny.
the bosses are shitty in 2. Especially Lumen Sage, who should be the highlight of the game but instead ends up being the most annoying and unfun to fight. This especially pisses me off because it's not like the first game's bosses were really good to begin with, it should have been the easiest thing to improve but they got it wrong.
the game is designed around the use of Witch Time, thus Witch Time is available on the highest difficulty. This alone should spell the difference between the two games.
The enemies are pitifully weak aside from some of the stronger demons like Sloth. There's no Gracious/Glorious style guy who shows and makes you say "Oh fuck no."
The only things I think Bayonetta 2 improved on were the graphics, the story, and the magic meter.
the models are higher poly count and the colors are more vibrant.
the story is actually so good it makes the first game's story better.
and Umbran Climax gives an actual use to the magic meter, torture attacks were stupid.

Huh, see I felt Bayo 2 was more streamlined - definitely easier overall, so I'm not denying that, but I'm not one for infinite climax levels of difficulty anyway so that's not a huge drawback for me. It's worth to note, though, that this was likely a sacrifice made in order to retain a more consistent difficulty curve throughout Bayonetta 2. Bayo 1 had annoying QTEs out of the blue, leading to instadeath if you're not fully alert during a cutscene of all things, many segments dragged on far longer than they needed to, with most bosses consisting of a repeated set of attacks 3 times or more, something Bayo 2 definitely improved upon, especially with the more variety in weepon choice which does a decent job of allowing you ti spice up the gameplay.
