It is significantly harder than Japanese to create different speech patterns in English.
In an anime you can do things as simple as converting desu to ssu to create a rough around the edges young character. You can tack on aru randomly at the end of sentences to create a Chinese stereotype. You can put jya at the end of shit to make the character sound elderly.
In English it's not nearly as easy. The stereotypes are usually much harder to translate into written word and your average American would not be able to even tell what you were going for outside of perhaps a Texan or English accent.
Given that she is also a chef I think what they went for works out pretty well. How they handle her voiced dialogue will likely make or break the translation.
As simple as ending in aru sounds, if someone in Japan read it in a manga, they would immediately think "oh they are Chinese/have a Chinese accent." I hear it isn't actually accurate to Chinese accents in Japanese, but stereotypes just need to signify something to be of value. They don't have to be accurate.

Potemkin and Slayer regularly wreck face in Xrd. GG rewards character knowledge far more than tiers. This isn't something like SF where you can master someone in 24 hours and should just use the best characters because of it.

Buster regularly does 30-50% of one's health immediately and its existence completely shuts down characters like Slayer. Hammerfall YRC is easily one of the best moves in the entire game.
He has to defend a lot, but so does everyone without a reliable reversal because the setplay in Xrd is extremely brutal. In return his damage output is massive and he can freely burn meter whenever he wants.
I'm not saying he is easy to use, but no one in GG is particularly easy to master and everyone has to approach matchups carefully if they want to succeed.
I really hate the Potemkin meme. Pot players act like victims constantly and they are worse than Dan users in SF. There's nothing wrong with the character there is just a few characters in Xrd that are too good. Pot doesn't deserve any buffs and he performs quite well at high levels of play.

Also I would say Zato, Ramlethal, Venom, and I-No all require a lot more effort than Potemkin. Execution wise doing Hammerfall can be hard in certain combos, but aside from that he's one of the easiest characters to learn in the game, especially if you're comfortable playing defensive.

As for Jam I haven't looked too much into it, but even Ramlethal will completely stomp people in tournaments and I doubt Jam is worse than Ram. I can't see how it is possible to be worse than Ram.

Also did you ever consider that people don't use him more because he's a sluggish as fuck grappler with little mobility in Guilty Gear of all games? Even if he was top tier you might not see much of him. Look at Eddie. No matter how good or bad he is he will never be a popular character.
Look at Chun Li in SFV. People didn't all flock to her because people don't like playing Chun Li they like fapping to her.

You must enjoy feeling like a special snowflake for using Potemkin, but now that he can consistently do 50% damage, and sometimes even up yo 75% or more per touch, he is balanced and takes as much work to do well as any other character save for Elphelt that is very easy to play.

Potemkin player here, I only ever played Potemkin so I might not know how "harder" he is to play as when compared to other highly technical characters like Venom, Zato=1 and Ramlethal.

Nice try, but I do watch Jonio's stream almost daily, and even during tournaments, a Zato player not named Ogawa is a rarity, and half of the times they just get bodied.
Xrd has better balancing than pretty much all the other popular fighters people are playing right now, yet the community is by far the worst when it comes to drones and tier complaining. I really don't get it.
The game isn't alive at all online but people are always so quick to parrot whatever they heard on Twitter or Dustloop whenever GG is mentioned. The Western scene is so poorly developed that it only ever performs in Western tournaments where the bulk of the best players aren't present. Given this, why the fuck do you care what random people across the world say about the game? Even if you have a local scene the average skill level of the players has no relevance to the level being played in Japan.
It's like how people who only play online complain about Fang being bad in SFV even though the top of the leaderboards in Ranked is full of Fang users.
