I personally enjoy Mass Effect 1 and 3 more than 2, but 2 has a lot of objectively better elements.
1 appealed to the rpg fan in me, and 3 was just disgustingly fun as a vanguard, but for most other classes it was pretty unremarkable.

And that's why it's the best of the three. Though overall I think you could in a power ranking put it ME2 = ME1, they're both good for different reasons but people think sequels need to be clones of the previous one like AC to be good.

The base game is much less interesting after cathedral ward boss and area wise, but the graphics, weapons, and atmosphere bring it to DaS,DeS levels.
I imagine half the hype for that rode on 3 points:
1: DaS2 score inflation and guilt, also the rise of Miyazaki's cult of personality was at top peak at release
2. It being the first PS4 exclusive that was actually good, it had a lot riding on in this regard
3. The large amount of Playstation sites who will inflate scores for exclusives
Not saying it's not a fantastic game.
But without the DLC it was definitely not better than base game DaS and DeS.

Dark Souls is the only game there with an honest rating. It's a great game, and worthy of an 89. The other 2 games are rated based on hype, if they were rated as if they were the first game in the trilogy with no hype or preconceived notions of how the game should be, they would score lower than an 89. At least DaS2 anyway, I don't know about DaS3.

I like Dark Souls 2 a lot, far more than most people on here do, but Dark Souls 1 is definitely the better game, though Dark Souls 2 is certainly worth playing as long as you don't have unreasonably high expectations of it.

Yup. What really ruined it was it becoming streamlined, too many bad bosses, lack of special weapons, world building, and so many small areas that look pretty but ended up just being corridors.
My first time through dark souls 2 i could hardly recall areas or bosses, it was all just a blur because they insisted on making short levels.
