>Microsoft didn't want the new Xbox to seem lower in number than the Playstation brand at the time
>They call it the 360 as a workaround.
>They go against this mindset with the newest model
>Meanwhile Microsoft jumps From Windows 8 to 10 without Windows 9
Why the fuck didn't they just call it Xbox 4 then?
They could even call it Xbox 5 and get the jump on Sony.. it's not like Amerifats can count anyway.

>xbox one
it is derived from 'the all in one home entertainment system'
>windows 10
windows 9 would have had issues with legacy software that was written for windows 95 and 98 models
Do your research next time. Higher numbers don't mean anything in naming a product.

>Higher numbers don't mean anything in naming a product.
It does in Marketing.
>>333267519
Not in naming. It does for buzzwords, specs, analytics,….

>windows 9 would have had issues with legacy software that was written for windows 95 and 98 models
That's bullshit. 9 is an unlikely number is Asia.

there's a shitton of code that determines what code it should use based on if the version name of your os starts with "windows 9".

"at the time" being the operative phrase. by the end of the 360's lifespan, Xbox was a household name. it wasn't yet, when the original came out. i remember a lot of casuals and parents wondering aloud why Halo wasn't available on the PS2.

"They call it the 360", as did everyone else.
They were hoping that people would continue in the same vein, and the new system would be called "The One" by gamers.

They may not have been as clueless as you think, Halo was originally going to be multi-platform. Hell it had its first public unveil at MacWorld by Steve Jobs and Bungie had previously been known primarily for MacOS games but had also released games for a variety of platforms including Linux and the Playstation 2.

>MS send out media briefings commanding them to never refer to it as the 'Xbone'
Worked out well for them.

I'm going to go buy a GT 9600. Suck it GTX 980 fags lmao with your elderly ass hardware
When the numbers get higher, the lower number may be an advantage. A higher number then symbolizes another iteration of something that has been going on for a long time, while a lower number represents an improvement to something new and exciting.
>>333267329
They called it Windows 10 because they didn't want to screw up the pattern by having a shitty odd-numbered Windows.
>>333270839
>Implying retards wouldn't notice the X and assume it means it's better.
>>333271421
>win7
>shitty for a windows version
you're retarded.
