Recently I played and beat Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, and Persona 4 for the first times.
I loved all of these games and am getting hyped for FFXV.
I have access to FFVI, FFVIII, Xenosaga series, Bravely Default, and the Tales collection for the ps3. Before playing these games my favorite JRPG was Xenoblade.
What do I playwhile I wait for Dark Souls 3, P5, and FFXV

I'm only just playing VI right now and while I like it, I'm feeling that the literal YEARS I've had people telling me how great it is has my expectations too high because I'm finding myself bored here and there.
VIII I really liked and have played it start to end 3 times over the years, but it does have flaws. Beautiful OST, however.
Bravely Default is quite nice, but a little over half way through the game I just.... stopped. I haven't touched it in almost a year.
Only played Tales of Symphonia so far and I found it kinda dull. Stopped after 5 or so hours.

I actually really disliked P3 and P4 but still looking forward to P5. I'll probably wait a long while before putting down money for it though.

Chrono Trigger is one of the best games I have ever played. I only picked it up about 5 years ago for the first time on DS and I could not put it down. Played it non stop for about two weeks.
I, too, also love FFVII. I sometimes worry that I'm looking at it with nostalgia glasses, but I still get goosebumps when that opening scene plays with the sound track then going into the bombing mission theme.

Beat Threed and if you don't like it by then stop playing. Earthbound is a very slow start to get the momentum going but once I got past Threed I couldn't stop playing until it was done.

Spira is fucking beautiful and so is the music. The story is actually relatable which is a big complaint I have with a lot of the stories I have in the series. I have more feels for X than I do any other game in the series.

Normally I'm bothered by games that don't give me a world map, but it really didn't distract from the rest of the game. You can still explore the world entirely by foot which is nice, just the airship doesn't fly, just sort of a command console, but it's really not a problem.
