Looking to buy a controller for pc gaming, emulation and all that. I'm not willing to drop a hundred bucks on a xbone/ps4 controller though, is the f310 a good choice or a meme controller?

I've had a few and enjoyed them pretty well, especially for the price point. Had a few issues with buttons wearing out and whatnot, but overall solid controller.
>>
It's shit.
Just get a dualshock 3 or 360 controller.
>>

>I'm not willing to drop a hundred bucks on a xbone/ps4 controller though
They're not that expensive
>>
>>333231428
F310's d-pad and L2/R2 triggers take a bit of getting used to.
Otherwise, it's a fine controller.
>>
>>333231428
i bought it and honestly it didnt feel great, it feels like a slightly worse ps3 controller, and after a while my right stick was just shitting itself in every single game i played.

I currently use a wired 360 controller which is pretty good for my moderately long fingers, but a ps4 controller might be better as its a step up from ps3 controller in almost every regard.
>>
>>333231904
nice bait
>>
>>333231428
360 controller is your best bet on Windows, drop by a local used tech store and snatch one up for cheap.
>>
Just get a xbone controller, they're not that expensive.
>>
>>333231428
excited by the good reviews i bought it, but it by no means is a plug and play controller, i hate even spending 30 seconds fucking around with calibration, i don't have a lot of free time.
>>
You could get a Gamecube or DS2 with a usb adapter
>>
>>333231913
Over here in Kangarooland they're about 80/90 bucks.
>>
>>333232006
I'm not saying it's a bad controller but the dpad is undeniably awful.
>>
>>333232104
if you have medium to large hands gamecube is terrible, the grips are made for smaller hands.
>>
I have an f310. The l2 and r2 triggers are one axis and will eventually shit out on you. Spend a little bit more on a more quality product.
>>
>>333232256

Not if you go 3rd party.

I bought a Madcatz 360 pad back in 2010, and it still works well today. The dpad on it is better than any dualshock I've ever used.
>>
>>333232256
d-pad is pretty shit but rest of controller is solid, if its only used in small amounts it's acceptable, but if you have to play games primarily with d-pad you would have a better time with something else
>>
I have an F310. Solid construction and hard to beat for the price, but the "Xbox 360 mode" isn't always recognized as an XB360 controller for those games that assume you have one. That feature is handy, though, including the flipside where it supports legacy games with the old school joystick profile.
>>
>>333232446
>better d-pad
>you can switch the d-pad and stick placement
That's a pretty sexy suggestion actually.
>>
>>333232723

Not even that, I was referring to a $30 model.

see this tells you everything you need to know right here. if it's anything other than a piece of shit, why would you need to replace it constantly? i'm using a dualshock 2 i bought over 15 years ago and it still works perfectly.
>>
>>333233654

i have rather large hands
>>

>recommends a 360 controller
Exclusively recommended it because Windows 'supports' it and as a result many games do as well.

Picked up an Afterglow a few weeks back after my old rock candy started acting up.

For 30 bucks cant really go wrong, also you get that cool see through aesthetic that has seemed to die out. The LED's are mostly useless, but I wanted the clear plastic as opposed to the colored so I could appreciate the guts more
>>
I have the older, weird version of this controller with the square analog sticks. It was solid, I've had it for over 10 years and bought it to play Resident Evil 4 on PC when it launched.

Works as intended. No idea if this new one uses XInput drivers and works just like a 360 controller, but if it does you're alright. D-Pad was very good too. Better than the 360. Feels good for platformers. As a cheap controller, it's good for $20.

Otherwise, 360 controller works well. You can get a wired controller on sale for $30. I'd advise staying away from the special edition d-pad. After a couple months, it cracked on me playing Guilty Gear.
>>
>>333233972
You can get first-party 360 pads for $30. What the fuck, man.
>>
i used one of these. it worked ok. but i ended up getting a PS4 controller as it was the same cost. it works so much better. (got it for like $35 on sale before prices went up to $75)

>it's not the same X as the PlayStation X
>Nintendo's ABXY is different from Xbox ABXY
>very few games detect PlayStation prompts
>even fewer have mods for PlayStation prompts
>>
>>333231428
I have that controller, it'll do the job if you want a cheap one but it's really shit
>>
>>333234479
It's not like you look at the controller every time button prompt came up.

As long as the mapping is the same there shouldn't be any problem.
>>
No one suggested the Wii U Pro I noticed. Has anyone here tried using one? I heard they're a real pain in the dick to set up.
>>
>>333234252
The thing with official 360 controllers, there's always that chance the left stick has that always going down issue. I have a few that do it and a few that are fine. From my understanding the Afterglow ones don't have this issue.
>>
>>333234479
How the fuck are you so retarded that you can't remember the mappings on an Xbox and DualShock controller?
>>
>>333234525
You can get official Xbox 360 controller for less than $30 on Amazon. There's no reason to settle for these low-quality controllers anymore.
>>
>>333231428
Since you're emulating, get a ps4 or xbone1

They also make nes/snes to USB
Or you can use wii with Bluetooth

Don't buy generic pads. The rocker dpad and clicky abxy start to grate on you after a while
>>
>>333231917
This.

Ive owned both, an F310 and the one before it it was called Dual Action and i can confirm that they are good for 3d games, however the D-pad sucks for 2d games, and the triggers feel awkward if you are used to ps3-360 controllers.
>>
I personally use the Xboner Elite. It's a great controller, especially compared to the regular Xbone controller. The sticks feel weighted and you can swap out d-pad and sticks easily. I never really use the paddles though.
>>
>>333234629
>>333234717

It's not a matter of mapping or memory, it's about consistency. Even better are early 7th gen console ports like Beowulf or Mercenaries 2 where they just use ICONS instead of buttons. They don't even assume default PC settings, like prompting "Press [E]" or anything. People complained about Merc2 PC because of the controls.
>>
>>333234781
And if you don't need sticks, fight pads are great for emulation
>>
>>333234717
Not him but I have a friend like this. He adamantly avoids xbox so whenever he eventually stops complaining and uses one he always takes fucking ages to do anything because he has to stop and look down to see which is which. Doesn't help that's he terrible at video games and refuses to admit it.
>>
>>333234629
>It's not like you look at the controller every time button prompt came up.

i actually do. i've been using the nintendo ABXY layout for 25 years now, i can't find anything on an xbox controller without looking

>Dual Action

I thought I had stumbled upon a god tier deal when I bought mine for $9 at fucking Gamestop and let me tell you it's shit because of the square gates, clicky uncomfortable buttons and the cable eventually started to fail.

Since it was so shit I gave it to my brother, I don't know if he ever used it.

>>333235035
Maybe get used to it? I used to have the same problem but after a few hours your brain gets used to it. However, changing back and forth between PS/Xbox layout is still really confusing
>>
>>333235151
oh go play mario world on a keyboard then shove it up your ass sideways

>>333235285
>get used to it?
even if i could unlearn all of my conditioning i'd still have to spend at least nearly as much time on an XBoner as i do my 3DS and SNES emulator, and i really don't see that happening

MAYBE if i got a steam controller i could condition my self through that but, ew

If it was shaped like a normal controller with room for L2/R2 triggers, this would be the best controller.

God damn the NES/Famicom controllers were great.

It literally says in the post that the buttons can wear out

Which is expected considering the price point

In burgerland, you can get a wired 360 controller for ~$40 AUD on amazon, and I was going to link you it on amazon.com.au and call you a retard, but holy shit. Why doesn't amazon australia sell anything but books?

Still, a wired 360 controller is as good as it will get. No compatibility issues and overall most solid unless you're hardcore into emulating old games.

yeah i never said that it didn't einstein. try pulling your head out of your ass long enough to understand that a controller that consistently wears out that fast is garbage, which is exactly what i said in my post. imbecile.

That controller is bad, like really bad. Just spend the extra money for a controller that will actually last.

I'm using one of them as temp until I can bother to buy an expensive one. It does the job, but it's not the most comfy controller, especially if you're not used to sony thumbstick positions. Get what you pay for and all that but the more expensive ones are a luxury.

I've had mine for two years so far. No problems, great buttons, analog sticks and d-pad. In fact, the best d-pad I've ever had in a usb controller. Only negative would be the noise of the buttons; it's really loud. A lot of people don't like the Lt and Rt triggers, because they move at a sharp angle. It doesn't bother me, though.

If mine broke tomorrow, I would order another F310.
