When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next designed;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man,
Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Filled it with vice, and called the thing a Nigger.

Here's a synopsis for a lore friendly mythos game.

The PC is autistic. The PC can only relate to people who are exactly, in every way, like him, anyone else is evil. The PC does nothing, goes mad, and dies ineffectually.

Cthulhu doesn't rise. Humanity Dies. The next race after humanity dies. Cthulhu dies. The universe dies because time devours all, even incomprehensible beings of infinite horror that represent the author's pathos about spending a weekend in Boston.

The game is pretty ambiguous about what constitutes a true Great One. I'd argue the only things that come close that can be killed in-game are either infants, servants, or failed human recreations. Never the real deal.

So the moment you put your eyes on anything spooky you'll immediately do one of three things:
Go into convulsions.
Kill yourself.

You don't have to kill yourself immediately. Usually you'll flee from whatever it is you saw for years and years then eventually write a long ass letter about the encounter as you spend your final days in an insane asylum, THEN you kill yourself.
>>
>>333218951
>his racism appeared stronger than the popular viewpoints held at that time

Quantify this statement.
How can someone "appear" to be more racist?

Did a white guy throw an insult, and HP spit at him? What makes one more racist than regular racist?
>>
>>333219716

*To clarify
Was HP Lovecraft ever in a situation where he was somehow more racist than another white person?
>>
>>333219716
Most people of the time would have considered the negro race simpler and more subservient, Lovecraft pretty much considered them demons.

>But whether he wrestled with a demon, or this was something from within, I can't help but admire his passion.
>No. I desire it. Even at the cost of losing myself, at losing what makes me 'me,' I'd like even a spark of his passion. A bit over dramatic, all things considered. But, still; for all his failings, Lovecraft was, in my humble opinion, a pretty cool guy.
>And I think, at the end of the day, there's a little bit of Lovecraft in each of us."
-Hideo Kojima speaking on P.T. Demo's inspirations

An accurate Lovecraft game would be very boring.
It's like you people don't understand what is it.
>>
>>333203524
The problem with being lore-correct is that everyone already knows the lore. Cthulhu is not maddening unknown and weird anymore. It loses a good deal of atmosphere and impact, knowing it's just good old Cthulu, Dagon or any of their friends.

Of the stories that you could actually make a game out of:

>Call of Cthulhu
Boat guy was worse for the wear but didn't seem to go barking mad, and definitely completed his "adventure" at any rate

>Shadow Over Innsmouth
Narrator escaped the city just fine, even after seeing an entire procession of fish people, only eventually succumbing to Dagon's pull *years* later after realizing it was in his blood

>Colour Out of Space
Family on whose front lawn the meteorite crashed all went insane, over the course of years, and that's clearly not the role a PC would play; closest PC analogue (the guy who came by to check on them periodically) witnessed the Colour himself and was fine except for what seems to be a very subtle "don't leave" psychological effect

>Mountains of Madness
Narrator's partner goes nutter butters after seeing some undefined thing out the window of the plane, but narrator (who witnessed a monster and walked through the whole Elder Thing city) seems no worse for wear

Yes, each of these characters really only had one spooky experience and the narrator of a hypothetical Cthulhu game would have more, but to say that a lore correct game would be "one and done" for spookies is inaccurate.

This.

Lovecraft's writing was 5% cool shit, proto-Nihilism, and occasionally even effective suspense; the other 95% was endless goddamn paragraphs of unnecessary purple prose. Which I suppose is inevitable when you're reading magazine material that paid by the word.

There is no 'Cthulhu lore', just elements that Lovecraft reused throughout his stories to produce a sense of connection. There's no substance there holding the world together, and it's only other writers after him that have tried to connect random dots together to form something of their own.
>>

Mainly just a blinding light and a core-shaking rumbling noise.

Also something that really scares me in fiction is if something incomprehensible just "arrives", people immediately fall to their knees and start worshipping it and singing its praise. It unsettles me so much. The only immediate examples that come to mind are the giant heads in Rick and Morty and that one comic where God makes this little girl into a braindemon thing that kills her family. If you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about.
