Anyone played this?
>>
Yes, it was a pretty good game. Story was great but I don't think it captured what having depression is like entirely accurate, but it never said it would do that to begin with so maybe I'm just being nitpicky. It's definitely something everyone should experience at least once.

It's a semi-interactive pamphlet where you experience the most softball case of depression ever through the eyes of a normalfag who doesn't experience suicidal ideation or violent mood swings or severe insomnia or any of the adverse symptoms of depression, who has a good job and a girlfriend and a supportive family and all that shit.

The person who is credited with "developing" it did not write it, or compose the music, or create any of the art. She just pieced it together in Twine, a program that is about as difficult to use as PowerPoint. Also worth noting is the fact that she hasn't "developed" anything since.
>>
She used to be so cute, what happened?
>>

>She used to be so cute

No she didn't, she was always dumpy
>>
>>333202941
>who has a good job and a girlfriend and a supportive family and all that shit.

Because what you really want is someone who has reason to fee sad, so the normies think that depression is feeling sad sometimes?
>>
>>333202021
I tried once, it was impossible to play as there is no gameplay.
>>
>>333203168
Maybe it's because of that big, nasty scar on her mouth?
>>
It's not insightful or fun.
At least walking simulators let you experience a space, however bare they may be.
She tried. It's more than I've done. But I think I would have put more effort into my first game.
I'll give it a very generous 1/10
>>
hey /v/
I'm going to the UN soon
what issues should I bring to their attention?
>>
>>333203628
Shitty living conditions and actual reasons to feel bad about yourself can compound depression to a great degree.

And as I pointed out, "depression is feeling sad sometimes" is EXACTLY THE IMPRESSION THIS GAME GIVES. He feels shitty about himself and unmotivated but never has thoughts like "if I was dead the world would be a better place" or "everything about me is terrible" or "everyone around me hates me but is too polite to say anything." He just feels sad sometimes.
>>
>>333204327
Right, so why complain that the protagonist has a nice life? You'd screw the message up twice as badly if you paint depression as "sometimes when people have reasons to feel sad, they feel sad".
>>
>>333204158
Have you ever made a Power point presentation before.
If you have then you have done as much as she has for the game industry.

Get rid of feminism at the UN and state that everything is already solved with regards to women's rights in the West. NOW.
>>
Yes. I played it before /v/ got all butthurt.

Game is actually a really good depiction of what it is like being depressed. Too short and ending is meh but it's a pretty good depression simulator.
>>
>>333204497
They're fucking it up either way man

The game does a terrible job of depicting depression.

I have. I'm actually Microsoft certified. Also, Twine isn't very hard to use. It is pretty neat but it is limited with what you can do with it.

It's really not.

It's not a video game, it's a glorified high-school student's English project.
>>
I'm going to spoil the game

Get therapy and you won't have depression
>>
>>333204857
That was his entire point man. She's not a developer. Fuck, I'm more of a developer than she is, because I once programmed a crappy Magic 8 Ball script on my graphing calculator in high school by tying some text strings to an RNG. That required an absolute bare minimum of programmin knowledge. Twine doesn't.
>>
>>333204812
Yeah, but they could actually do much worse, it's annoying seeing sad sacks here complaining that you can't be depressed if you've got your dick wet.
>>
yea, it was really shitty.
what it needed to do was show you what options you have, but not let you pick.
thats depression
>>
>>333204890
>youre depressed
>stay inside or hang out with friends
>you hang out with friends
>you are less depressed
thats not how depression works at all, fuck this game.
>>
>>333205071
If only it were this easy.

>>333205148
This. I don't have any friends because I'm depressed, and I'm depressed because I don't have any friends.
Shit's more complicated than a fucking stat in a video game.
>>
>>333205105
Twine can be incredibly easy, but there are some things that do require basic coding and math
Though I doubt Quinn included that

I've been depressed since I was 14 (I'm 27 now), I don't need a game to tell me how depression is.

The game's short, it's not an accurate depiction of depression, the music is white noise at absolute best, and the writing just ain't that great. Given that's the entirety of what composes it, I think it's safe to say that it's shit m8.
>>

>>
>>333206835
Or if we didn't have a hard-core of people who harass others for fun, raids and trolling are one thing, but there's some real twats out there who fuck it up for everyone because they've got no boundaries.
>>
I "played" it well before any of the drama happened and went into it with an open mind and wanting to like it.

I couldn't because it's so fucking rudimentary. The worst thing about it is simply that it doesn't convey what it's like to be depressed. To be fair, that's not an easy task, but when you reduce it all to some actions not being available, that doesn't do the illness any justice.

That one popular comic about the artist's own depression is far more of an interactive and enlightening experience than DQ could ever hope to be. Maybe that's because that artist has actually experienced a major depressive episode. It doesn't feel like the people behind DQ really have.
>>
>>333205567
I'm not a huge fan of therapy myself because it's expensive, even my glorious European welfare state won't pay for it, and it's hard as shit finding someone you click with. Your pic suggests that it isn't effective at all, though, and that's wrong. There have been various studies that have shown that a combined course of meds + therapy is much more effective in treating depression than either meds or therapy alone.
>>
Maybe she marketed it towards someone who isn't chronically depressed. I'd imagine the message would hit harder if it was like "hey man this is your life and this is how depression would effect you in your situation"

I doubt she wanted to show the side where you literally can't do anything.
>>
>>333207004
Different guy, but I went to therapy for a few months and it was exactly that, so I stopped going.
>>
>>333202021
I play it everyday...
>>
>>333208693
Ideally you should find someone who will help you work out coping strategies and/or identify why you feel a certain way about certain things and how you can change that.

But yeah, I know, there are a lot of shitty therapists out there and it often literally is "I'll listen to you whine for 90 € an hour". Fuck that, if I wanted that, I might as well go to a prostitute and get some head on top of it.

Yes but it was really annoying because it shoehorns the player and clearly states that there is only one kind of depression. It really pissed me off at how shallow and bullshit it was.

>try out various med regimens
>stick with one that works well

>everything's pretty great now

I guess it varies from person to person.

Psychiatrist != Psychotherapist

One's a doctor, the other is not.
