More environment variety
More pretty landscapes.
More missions like the Blue Moon Tower.
Ur Dragon was great, but make it more of a co-operative effort and less asynchronous.
Discipline points can fuck off

All that being said, this is still my second favorite game of all time, managed to get it on PC recently after loving it on PS3 and been having a blast playing MK.

I would also like to see stats/attributes be revamped heavily. Ideally, I think I would prefer to see leveling be axed entirely, or to have levels just give you more abilities rather than more raw power. The vast majority of enemies in Dragon's Dogma cease to be remotely threatening or interesting after a few hours of play, which is a shame.

Everything else I can think of is relatively minor, like having more content in general and giving warriors six skill slots.

Except that's wrong, since the Roman's literally mass-produced their swords, which were of pretty damn good quality.

Not to mention nearly every hoplite had a back-up sword on hand.

It was mostly in the dark ages that you had swords being relegated to a much fewer percentage of people. Even then, they became more common again around the 12th, 13th centuries.

The issue is most games the player is a single person, and Spears and Polearms really showed their worth in a formation, so games don't have many opportunities to demonstrate that. Pike formations are godly in Total war games and such though.

If you're talking about the legionaries, their primary weapon in most all cases was the gladius. The Javelin was primarily a dispensable weapon used for them to be able to move up on the enemy with their swords, after having created gaps in their formatting or caused some to drop their shields.

I would say the crossbow was the most effective, seeing as it could be used to tear Pikemen to pieces, and rivalled the English longbow.

I think something like being able to buy a house and make an NPC that really likes you move in there with you would be alright. Maybe pawns that aren't combat oriented to populate it, serve you by crafting or something like that.

Well, to put it into perspective, there were entire armies made of nothing but crossbowmen back then. Because of how simple it was to use, and that it could pierce plate armor, it was seen as invaluable.

As for the mongols, their tactics are largely what made them successful in Europe. The Mamelukes handed the Mongols their asses to them on a silver platter at Ain Jalut in 1260. They fucking kicked their ass, HARD, suffering a catastrophic loss. As for the victories they had against the Europeans, that was mostly against the Russians/Slavs/Eastern Europeans, who were very poor and meager kingdoms at the time.

Battle of Samara Bend is another example of Europeans using the same tactics against the Mongol's and defeating them pretty badly. It was just a matter of circumstance that they penetrated as far as they did, not any technological brilliance.

Fill the world so it doesnt feel so empty and add a bunch of large enemies to fight on it, only cyclops and griffin gets boring after a while, although BBI does add a bunch of different shit.

Balance the classes, like the warrior to make it viable/fun late game and that's pretty much a perfect game

There is still a difference getting a custom made sword from the best swordsmith you could hire and provide materials to compared to mass produced ones handed out for footmen.

A well made sword/weapon stood out like crazy and gave massive advantages compared to the mass produced ones especially if it was made from durable material like steel that reached the same quality as modern made industrial steel.

There really were too few tight areas to balance out the openness. Soulflayer Canyon, the quarry, that's about it. And BB of course. Soulflayer was cool, climbing up and down the cliffs and going through the quarry for the first time felt like I was fucking Gandalf in Moria. Actually that kind of area would be amazing. I suppose Bitterblack already was like that, and it was great

Or some kind of level creator? Daimon created BBI with his mind, what if when the player defeats the boss, he becomes the boss and gets to create a dungeon for other players. That's pretty out there, I admit

nah. part of what made BBI so great was that maps were static and mobs were the same. each time you went through an area that you thought was treacherous, you got better at defeating the enemies, memorized the layout, and gained levels. eventually you completely mastered that area and might even decide to just run past all the enemies. that's a true feeling of progress that you might not get in randomized rooms with randomized mobs.
