In the days of the Atari when everyone could make games people focused on quantity in hopes that one viral hit would offset the cost of many failures. The result was the north american videogame crash of 1983.

My PS4 is covered in dust, and doesn't look like it's going to get better any time soon. What does the PS4 even have this year? I couldn't be fucked to care about Uncharted 4, 3 was trash and I've completely lost interest with the series. Rachet and Clank will probably be fun but I've never been an enormous fan of the series. The last game I played on PS4 was Digimon, which to be fair was a lot of fun and I sunk a lot of time into it, but since then I occasionally play Street Fighter and that's it.

Even if we take into account that half of PS4 annual releases are great and even an eighth of PC annuals are great, you're still looking at an equivalent number if not one that is skewed toward PC. More releases may mean more shit to filter, but look at the NES where the same shit happened. Every three games was matched by either a great game or a niche gem, diamond in the rough or other wise.

Competition is great and it comes from various sources - Even if we were to make every game multiplat, we wouldn't have a monopoly, because people are free to buy games that they like. Remove consoles from the equation and just think about having every game available to you at no more than $50. You wouldn't play every game out there, just like you don't do right now. You instead pick and choose good games that are fun to play.
People who make shit games will theoretically get less money because nobody wants to play their games. People who make good games will get rewarded with handsome amounts of money.
The only thing exclusives are doing are forcing us to buy outdated hardware, subscribe to online services that don't even use dedicated servers, and limit out choices.
