It still happens, from time to time, but it's really fucking rare in comparison how it used to be.
What I wouldn't give for another game like the first Darkness game by Starbreeze. Or more stuff like the Riddick games, by Starbreeze again.
As far as console shooters go, Timesplitters might be the best.

The people who made those earlier games good left and were little, if at all, involved with Syndicate.
Don't get me wrong, it still has that feeling of a Starbreeze game, but the story is absolute shit. I mean, you're railroaded into going against the standard fare of behavior of that world for no reason at all.
