In the beginning, before anyone joins you party, leave the town asap, instead of going to the castle.
Instead make your way all alone through the mountains to the village on the other side. Talk to the people there. Someone will give you a gift for "making it through the dangerous mountains" all by yourself.

It's about a 15-20 hour rpg, can't really go wrong with it. The exp system scales in a way that you really can't overlevel so no grinding needed. You'll get the necessary couple of level up per area to keep up with baddies.
Best end requires recruiting everyone available and making sure they live.
Save before strategy battles, you can permanently lose characters there. You'll also get a party member back at some point and when you do, grind him up and upgrade his weapon before continuing the story.

Kreutz is super easy to miss, make sure to look the character up because you only have a short window to get him after he becomes available and the (recruited) character you need to talk him into joining you can't join you for the last part of the game.

Like I said, I think 3 is GOOD. But not as good as 2 or 5. It annoyed a lot of people having to play protagonists they didn't like (especially Hugo) and you have to get at least 20 hours in before the game's story really gets rolling. It's like a mini-chrono cross (which I also think is fantastic).
That said I still play 3 every couple of years. I like what they did with each map having its own notorious monster. I liked mounts, and I liked the skill system.Swing is OP.

Not them but after 1 and 2, 3 looked more like the typical mediocre dreamcast jrpg, not only the graphics sucked, but the "have to play with 3 characters before deciding the protag and make the game start" was boring as shit.
Of course people think it was good because 4 was mediocre, but really, 1, 2 and 5 are the only good ones, and 5 is...ok but not as good as the first two.

Controls and camera were horrendous. All surroundings looked like they are randomly generated.
Story is too spread out between the protagonists and takes forever to become interesting.
I disliked the overall atmosphere too, it somehow felt more silly and less complicated compared to the rest of the series.

I don't remember having an issue with controls or the camera(I emulated, so everything was setup my way) Some people will definitely dig the interwoven story structure of the 3 protags, it's hit/miss though.
