I feel you, OP.

Whenever it comes to stat allocation I'm retarded. Also since I know I'm so bad it makes me uneasy whenever I get stuck in the game because I don't know if it's because my build is so god awful or if I just need to try harder.

Simply the worst. I also used to think games with softcaps were missing out on potential until I played a game without softcaps on stats and it breaks the mechanics. It was a random 3D porn game and you'd run around diablo style killing everything and then you'd tear off the clothes of the girl at the end. Repeat that 12 or 13 times to get extra outfits for the h-scenes. It was a pain in the dick because the game tied attack speed and movement speed to one stat and you start out really slow. You could invest in Health regen to get back any damage caused by everything and literally walk through the mobs. What was funny was with the movement speed it had no cap so you could become something akin to the flash if you invested enough stat points.

I used to think this, but no longer after playing replaying through RPGs or looking up stat guides for optimal following runs or hell, sometimes I'll figure out in my first run that y-z skills are completely fucking useless or trash in comparison to another skill/perk/trait/ect.

I don't mind dealing with being weaker in combat, but the medical skill or engineering skill or what have you had better have more than a handful of uses in the game and it had better not be made completely useless by items every build has access to.

Age of Decadence did so well with making every skill you could choose matter. I wish every game had encounters (both combat and non-combat) that allowed you to forge ahead with that build idea that sounds cool and actually works out due to good quest design.

I just look that shit up in a guide when I start playing. Then again I rarely play games where investing skillpoints is a factor; most games nowadays just assign them automatically which I am fine with.

I like games that level up stats based on what class you are then all you have to worry about is combining perks to get boss combinations, but i also have never really had trouble with games like dark souls where you allocate your skill points to make your class.

I watched a friend pour tons of points into resistance and he just couldn't get past Skinny and Chubs. He spent hours grinding to make up for it but he still couldn't do it. He eventually started again, leaving behind 150+ hours of game time, biggest kek I had in a long time.
