Which one of these is the best setting for vidya games?
>>
>>333149281
None

They're all meme genres
>>
>>333149281
Steampunk is absolute garbage, raypunk seems like a much less interesting version of a SMT universe, Diesel is just edgy grimdark with no fun and for that you might aswell go for wh40k, and cyberpunk is just not really interesting, to be honest with you anon.
>>
>>333149281
All i guess
alltho raypunk is pretty gay and steampunk is cringe le zelda girl
>>
>>333149281
i love steampunk, but can't seem to find good looking steampunk video games. someone suggest good steampunk games to me.
>>
>>333149281

If the game is good it can make any of those settings work.

Personally I think cyberpunk has the most potential for interesting plots and shit though.

I love egyptian/arabian settings in games. Sands of Time was perfect for this, shame they fucked it up in the sequels. Imagine a game with a soundtrack like this.

The bulk of the team is finishing up TW3's final expansion before they go full throttle with 2077. Probably gonna be another couple years.

There's not enough cyberpunk games. Which I find really strange as the settings has potential for lots of cool things both gameplay and story-wise

Cyberpunk. Hands down.

Steampunk too when done right.

"Steampunk" anything irrationally triggers me beyond any other made-up genre

Like it doesn't even fucking make any sense. "Victorian" makes more sense. "Elizabethan" or "Jacobian" too. I mean fuck, pick any era from the 15th to 20th century and you have your 'Steampunk'

But no, throw in a few more gears and some elaborately inefficient flying machines / "gadgets" and suddenly you have a whole new fantasy genre?

No. Go fuck yourself. That's stupid as fuck. The entire genre is 18th century England with more gears. Fucking radical, I guess
>>
>>333149281
Don't forget weird Japan references in cyberpunk
>>
>Xpunk

Why is this naming convention so retarded?

I thought the reason why it was called Cyberpunk is because the corperate goverment in the dystopian future gives rise to a new punk movement.

Rise of Legends
>>
>>333151565

Well triggered, brother. Maybe next time you won't confuse 18th century and 19th century.
>>
>>333149281
Dieselpunk I've come around on, but Cyberpunk is still my bae
>>
>>333151661
because that's how language works

x-gate
x-punk
one thing did it first so now other things base their naming on that original thing
>>
>>333151661
It's not just gaming. People in general are retarded. They only think in comfortable memes.

>Watergate.
>An illegal break in at the DNC revealed by an investigative journalist in association with an anonymous CIA operative.
>Nipplegate.
>Minor nudity at the superbowl.
>>
Just finished reading Neuromancer so I guess cyberpunk because holy fuck that is a deep well to draw from.
>>
>>333149281
Cyber>Steam>Ray>Diesel
>>
>>333151746
Watergate is called Watergate because it's where the scandal took place.

Every 'gate' that followed is stupid and nonsensical. It's just ridiculous to me that something that wasn't remotely clever or accurate has become overused to the point of cliche.

god fucking damn you.
>>
>>333149704

>>
>>333152159
Potentially just as annoying, but at least it makes some level of sense. Inception is very much about dreams within dreams within dreams, and so if someone talks about themselves talking about themselves, fair enough, add the 'ception' prefix.

When it comes to Journalists, PAID WRITERS, naming an event where a nipple was shown during the Superbowl after a GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY based on the tenuous link that they're both scandalous, well, that's just bullshit.
>>
>>333149281
Cyberpunk a best
Steampunk is hit or miss
Dieselpunk isn't post-apoc
Raypunk isn't a word
>>
>>333151909
Watergate was/is so well known that it's pretty much become synonymous with (political) scandals in general, however dumb that may be. Using the -gate suffix is ok, because, as was pointed out, that's how language works.
>>
>>333149546
>good looking steampunk video games
>good looking

Well that's about all The Order: 1886 has going for it.
>>
>>333152330
Dude, that person actually thinks the people who are now squatting in close proximity to the pyramids had something to do with them. Even though they're entire gene pool wasn't anywhere near the pyramids until decades after it fell.

It's like saying they want a mayan and pilgrim game.
>>
>>333152230
>PunkPunk
>a setting where obscenely dressed Britbongs acting like animals are often making noises that can be vaguely described as "music"
>>
>>333152252
I'm well aware what the watergate hotel incident is

it's just a lot of other political scandals get referred to as x-gate because that's how the language works
>>
>>333150616
Retrofuturism is an umbrella term. All of these -punk styles are retrofuturistic, with the exception of cyberpunk, sometimes, when it's not doing the 80s thing.
>>
>>333152431
>It's become synonymous with all types of scandals because people compared it to completely unrelated scandals and therefore it's alright to continue to compare it to scandals because the fact that this relatively new, mostly internet inspired, phenomena of sucking the meaning out of language must mean that it's 'just the way language works'.
>>
Quick i need some raypunk videogames!

>>333152608

>>
>>333151561
Dieselpunk is kind of associated with industrialisation, modernism, and the world wars, hence why it's usually dark.
>>
>>333149281
Only one of them is a setting. The other 3 are aesthetics
>>
>>333152645
Awesomenauts, maybe?
>>
>>333152608
>phenomena of sucking the meaning out of language must mean that it's 'just the way language works'
More or less, that's exactly what it means.

Language is not something natural, it's a positivist construction made up by people. If people use the language in a way that makes it evolve into a certain direction, that's direction is objectively "the way language works".
>>
Cyberpunk does a much better job at exploring social issues. It's basically our current society taken to the extreme.

I like to see more Dieselpunk. I mean who wouldn't want to live in an alternative industrial revolution future? Also, comfy pipelines and heavy machine noise. It's the perfect blend between cyberpunk and steampunk.
>>
>>333152608
>this relatively new, mostly internet inspired, phenomena of sucking the meaning out of language
At most you can say that the rapid mass-communication that the internet allows has sped up the process.
>>
>>333152869
I haven't seen any dieselpunk that ever got it quite right. I want a huge perpetual industrial revolution society with themes of exploitation and alienation.
>>
>>333149281
Best on what metric? "Potential" is just speculation at most and your own personal biases.

In terms of novelty, either Dieselpunk or Raypunk.

But honestly, I'm a Contemporary Fantasy type of guy.
>>
>>333152967
That's probably because that isn't necessarily what dieselpunk is about
>>
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DieselPunk
>>
>>333153141
Fair enough. I thought that's what the point of all the *punk genres. Except for Steamfantasy.
>>
>>333149281
Why do they use the word punk? It makes it sound fucking lame.
>>
>>333149605
>sidewinder

even this nerd knows whats a good gayming keyboard

why dont you have a good gaymer keyboard /v/ ?
>>
>>333153339
It's not even necessarily the point in cyberpunk.
>>
>>333153432
Because it's the grit, shit, and general slumminess that separates it from just being period pieces.
>>
>>333153432
Because the punk settings are supposed to focus on the dirty down-trodden rebels vs the rich power-hungry fascists and capitalists
Each punk setting focuses on one particular aspect of a time period

Except steampunk is now just nerf guns+gears
Doesn't really bother me though, the retrofuturistic victorian aesthics are quite boring, and the only good piece of steampunk media is Steamboy
>>
>>333149330

They say the release date is between 2017 and 2021.
>>
>>333158442
Not exactly. I think they said they have plans for the period 2017-2021 which includes CP2077 and another unannounced game. I doubt they have a four year window for CP2077's release. It'll probably be 2017, 2018 at the latest.

>steampunk for crafting vidya
>raypunk for space adventure vidya

Still cyberpunk wins because you can create unrealistic shit and still make it work because vidya.
