In the first three Halo games you had opened levels that allowed players to mess around with games' sandbox. The enemy AI were smart, the ally AI was sometimes reliable. The AI would always use the environment to their advantage. Levels were made so that players could either use a vehicle or go on foot and the stories were top notch and epic. The multiplayer for the games were phenomenal, the competitive nature, bringing the community together, fun gametypes, armor customization, map creation, customs, and more. These games were one of the best FPS that you could find on a console, what happened. Why did Halo go from an innovator to a follower?

Halo CE is a really solid shooter that works really well on consoles. Then 2 and 3 had really solid multiplayer and different game modes.
The real issue with Halo is the fan base. At Halo's height they were intolerable and they would go on endlessly about Halo being the best game made and how it was super innovative (it really isn't). It's far from a bad series but the fan base sperg a out hard, and a large reason for this is that for a huge portion of them it was their first online shooter experience.
