What went wrong?
unfinished story
fuck 3D model
there is no city without NLA
Doll and word is good.
>>333126750
Bad sound direction even if a fair amount of the music tracks ranged from great to good. The shitty tracks play the most frequently.
Story is a mess, but not completely irredeemable.
Reyn wasn't in it.
>>333128043
I knew this was going to happen when they announced Sawano was doing the music. Every song with vocals is ass
Put 130 hours into it.
No regrets. Hadfun.
Absolutely nothing desu
If there is a sequel that uses XCX'S world building then it's an incredible introduction to a series
>>333127679
thankfully none of this directly affects gameplay (except 1 city I guess, but there didn't really need to be any more)
>>333126750
Only thing that I can think of that is objectively bad is the sound balancing in some of the cutscenes. I mean holy shit is it that hard to make the music quieter then the people talking? Fucking rookie mistake.
Other then that the fact I have to wait another 5 years to find out what the fuck is going on for real this time.
Im sure some people will say the lack of focus on story and characters, and while I agree that those areas could use some real work NLA and Mira as a whole was the real star of the show as opposed to the main cast this time around. I found the themes of community and exploration to be way more prevalent here then XC, and thats ok while not my ideal scenario.
>>333126750
Lost my way.
>>333128043
I liked that they didnt just copy paste characters from XC over to XCX, but ya the lack of a Ryne substitute was lame. I dont think they could have done him justice here though, the focus on the characters just wasnt there like it was in XC.
>>333129609
Did you have any issues with the text size? I had to strain to read some of the words on the screen
>>333131246
I got a nice sized tv so it wasnt a problem for me 90% of the time. Making the text super small definitely wasn't the best solution and I can totally see it fucking some people over based on their setups.
I'll also add in that the NLA night track was terrible. In fact NLA should have had several more tracks being the only main hub in the game.
>>333128663
>Xenoblades level of character building with X's level of exploration and world building
We can only hope for something so wonderful
>>333127679
>Doll
>>333126750
My main qualms are the the sound direction since sometimes they have out of place music or LOUD MUSIC. Im fine with the music since theres both good and bad tracks in every game. Then theres the really small text size and this is coming from someone who has a big tv so i had to use my projector or gamepad to play. And finally skell combat was barebones as hell.
The story was so fucking RUSHED that it hurt.
Online was implemented ridiculously poorly.
Obtuse mechanics. If you got it in November, how'd you enjoy getting all the Storage probes without guides?
>>333126750
not enough focus on story and lin + tatsu are shitty characters.
>>333132347
i played the game without guides and got most storage probes just by doing kristie's missions and exploring
>>333132347
>how'd you enjoy getting all the Storage probes without guides?
I just did missions for that lady with the open shirt and looked for treasure. Was there some other way?
>>333132314
>Have to listen to shit music any time I battle
>Have to listen to shit music any time I go to NLA at night
That's a lot of time listening to bad music
>>333132647
the battle music is good tho
>>333132647
no one will argue that the NLA night time track didnt ware out its welcome in one night, but the battle tracks too? Those ranged from just ok to pretty damn great if you ask me
>>333126750
The worst thing is the fucking party mechanics.
Oh you want a person in your party? Fucking find them across the city bitch!
Oh you wanted to continue the main story? I HOPE YOU LIKE THESE 2 BITCHES! AND NOPE YOU CAN'T BRING ANYONE ELSE!
You want to do a side mission? Well I hope you know where all the required members are! JK ITS JUST GONNA BE LIN AND ELMA AGAIN!
Also
LEL TATSU IS FOOD LEL LETS KEEP BRING IT UP LEL POTATO
>Text size
>Sound balancing in cutscenes
>Have to run around the city to recruit allies back into your party (should have just hung out in the barracks after recruitment)
>Dialogue is hit or miss (L is one of the funnier videogame characters while Tatsu and Lin miss the mark plenty of times)
Other than that, was a fucking amazing game. Literally consumed my entire December from the day it launched to nearly the end of the month, where I 100% it.
Can't wait for whatever Takahashi is doing next, be it a sequel or something new entirely. He's saving videogames for me.
>>333132795
The vanilla battle track would be fine if it wasn't for the obnoxious rap lyrics, even though there's good music underneath it
>>333132875
Oh also what >>333132816 said about needing Lin and Elma for literally every mission. We got enough of them in the main storyline yet for some reason every heart-to-heart mission, which were created specifically to build up the side characters and the relations between them, also have to include Lin and Elma.
>>333132816
Id rather you have the option to recruit them one by one in person or just having a menu to call them up and ask them to join you when you left the city
The fact that only two of the characters had any meaningful characterization and impact on the plot, and that you basically had to use them on every story mission fucking is fucking ruining this game for me
>>333126750
A lot of music's shitty/uninteresting, really disappointing compared to the previous game.
Combat is okay, but it really needs more depth. It's not so different from pressing a button every couple of seconds with good timing, really.
>>333132963
I hated Lin and Elma. Like I could stand Elma at first, but I despised Lin the second I met her. Then I began to loathe them as the story continued.
skell combat was garbage and had nothing to do with ground setup beyond whether or not you're wearing "good at skells" clothes
They changed the story late so they could do their shitty online mode and create-a-character
I still enjoyed the game, it had a great world to explore
>>333129609
>That image
Fucking perfect
>>333131246
I did. That shit is literally made for ants. Loved the game all the same though.
>going through the Xenoblade X OST
>barely recognize any of the tracks on disk 1
>they're all really good to boot
Who the fuck was the sound coordinator? I feel like I might have heard -parts- of these songs in affinity quest cutscenes.
>>333128043
Speaking of sound direction, whoever thought of putting the songs with lyrics LOUDER THAN THE CHARACTERS TALKING IN CUTSCENES needs to be fired from Monolith ASAP. Also they need to add sound options in general.
Other than that I'd say the game was fine up until you get to the endgame and have nothing else to do but grind materials to take down mega tyrants, which is very boring, but that's an entirely optional thing that happens 200+ hours into the game. I hope the game was successful enough that we'll see a sequel sooner rather than later.

*research
My bad.
Maybe I'm a disgusting casual.
>>333133751
same concept, I got most of them just by normally playing the game
I had to look 2 up, and considering the scale of the game i'd say that's pretty damn good. Those are important treasures, they are more emphasized by the geography or hidden behind bosses
>>333127679
>there is no city without NLA
But this is good. It actually made NLA a somewhat comfy hub more memorable than most RPG towns/cities.
>>333129751

>>333127679
>NLA only city
this is good, it made doing quests much more tolerable
having to traverse alcomoth and especially frontier village for quests was hell
>>333132816
And I hope you didn't plan on getting to know any other characters because you have to beat the game to feasibly gain affinity by doing the same mission 90 times a character
>>333134126
I managed to max affinity with the characters I liked (Celica, Alexa, H.B. and Murderess) before finishing the story. Then again, I actually changed my party setup when I fucked off to explore or do sidequests instead of just having Lin and Elma tag along for the entire game.
>>333126750
Pros
-great side quests and affinity missions
-soundtrack was mostly good
-combat was much much better than XBC, I would go so far as to say it was great
-skells were fucking cool, especially the customization options
-superweapons
-class system (arguably part of combat)
-world was very well made, verticality and how it tied into unlocking skells and the flight module was great
-sheer ammount of unique assets used in the world is pretty incredible, not even counting indigens
-tons of post game content
Cons
-UH UH YEEEAHH
-some songs were terrible
-main story was pretty bland and the villains were pretty boring because we never got any backstory or proper closure with most of them (lions were cool though)
-tatsu
-most of the characrers werent as fleshed out as in XBC because there were so many of them
-tons of grinding to get augments
Overall I thought it was a great game and put 150+ hours into it, but I loved it for the opposite reasons I loved XBC. The characters, sense of adventure and story werent there, but instead we got much better gameplay, much better side quests, and tons more post game content.
>>333133685
This so fucking much. What were they thinking. How can I hear what they're fucking saying with this shit music.

>>333132816
This. So many things improved over the first Xenoblade, and they had to completely fucking ruin affinity gains and party management by removing gift giving and making party recruitment as convoluted as possible. For fuck's sake there's a squad terminal RIGHT NEXT to the mission terminal that lets your "recruit other BLADE members for your missions", but only the fucking player characters. Why not make it so that console allows you to hire the NPC party members as well? It would have been a thousand times more convenient than the current system.

>>333128565
Hold the fuck up, I recognize this scene. This is the scene from Signs when Joaquin Phoenix freaks is watching TV and sees the alien.
>>333134472
Exactly, I hope they can combine the two for the next game, XBC with good gameplay and side quests or XBX with good story and characters would pretty much be the best XB game
>>333134458
I hear the similarities but neither are particularly original. In fact, a lot of X's soundtrack reminds me of .hack, in a good way.
as a poorfag who has to wait till an emulator works for wii u.

By around 1:00, it sounds like this theme.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wROow7YLpn0
>>333134519
I could see that, but for me I felt that it was more of a sense of survival and the need to explore and chart out a dangerous new world rather than defend your home like in XBC. Different stokes for different folks, really.
It's a good game of it has its issues but it got alot right like exploration and world building, the story isn't horrible do the side quests and affinity missions

>>333135464
wrong, MGSV failed in being an open world game with nothing to do in between outposts with a fast travel system that took way WAY too long
XCX passed with flying colors
>>333135331
No, you have to craft the highest level gear and augments in the game (those that'd allow you to be on equal footing with the game's biggest optional bosses) using a ridiculous amount of monster parts, some of which are really rare, see impossible to get without doing online missions, plus you can use tickets you win from doing online boss fights to pay for parts which greatly reduces the time needed to grind for them.
>>333134954
You will most likely need a good rig to run a WiiU emulator anyway.

>>333135868
>he didn't see all the shitflinging before XCX came out
Almost all character development takes place outside of the main story even for the main characters and most of the good story shit is also in the sidequests, making the actual main story incredibly lacking in conclusions and just overall poor. They clearly intended for people to mix the main story with the more fleshed out side stories but they just didn't do it right, something happens in the main plot and it gets resolved in a side plot or not resolved at all. It just feels bare.
Forced to use Elma/Lin for the vast majority of story missions severely limiting party configurations.
Unfitting or too loud music during some cutscenes.
Lazy as fuck localization (less voice options, no dual audio, pointless name changes, etc.), censorship (half of Lin's new costumes look retarded, especially the bunny one, complete removal of the bust slider all so people don't just make a pseudo-Lin to get around her outfit censorship) or both (leave the rest of the sarashi set untouched except the fundoshi, which is now traditional japanese boxer shorts that still have fundoshi for the thumbnail/icon)
Most party members are optional as well as the alien races, but the don't have a single party member for some reason, despite many sharing the same basic body shape humans do. No scientist rider bug/pizza cat party member for you.
Dolls/Skells are fun but there isn't as much customization as I'd like and the combat is a step back in depth instead of being another layer.
One save slot per profile.
Tatsu.
Incredibly poor online.
Took away simple Quality of Life functions that were in Xenoblade like being able to change time any time and being able to change party members on the fly.
Find this one item that spawns from this one orb at this one time and isn't even a guarantee from that one orb. Best approximation I can give you is the continent.
Game's great though IMO, just incredibly flawed.

>>333126750
The only reason i don't want to pick it back up is i have to do side shit just to have the main story continue. I don't want to do endless fetch quests or satellite pitching.
Characters outside of lin/elma/general dude were fucking worthless from a story standpoint. I didn't even know who Doug was when he came in to see lao or whatever because the last time you see him is the quick tour of NLA like 20 hours earlier.
Only 12 missions and most of these only served to introduce you to the new wacky space aliens and give you new side missions. Pretty much only 3 missions really "advanced the plot", and the final mission had about 6 hours of dialogue which should've been spread throughout the game. This wouldn't be a problem if the side missions were GOAT(and they kind of are), but...
They still have those shitty resource missions interwoven into every quest for no fucking reason. Man this back to the future quest is fun, let me put it on hold for a bit so I can run out in the middle of a fucking ocean for a super rare item drop.
Skell combat is shit
too much grinding compared to chronicles.
The world is massive but feels dead because nothing really interacts with anything. Cars even phase through you.
Music in key areas is shit. There's a lot of good songs but most of your time is going to be spent in NLA, flying, in combat, etc. and the bad is what you're going to be listening to the most despite only composing a small portion of the songs.
The world is way too hostile
>Thats the point!
Fuck you, dropping like a fucking rock mid jump because a ton of low level plants come out of nowhere is not fun nor does it enhance my gameplay experience.
Skells, especially with the flight module make the world feel way too small.
I'm sure there's more nitpicks I have with the game but I can't remember off the top of my head.
>>333136215

You mean, the Water Plant shit could have gone differently?!
Fun fact; both the sound and text are a result of the localization. They used the smallest font for regular text instead making a font that wasn't tiny or using the larger font.
The audio mixing was half-assed too, you can hear shit in the Japanese version but not the English one.
