They didn't. The flashback you see doesn't have the real Shaun in it. Kellog raised the robot kid in Diamond City, not the real one. The real Shaun might've spent time with Kellog in the same fashion before going to the Institute, but that's not what you see in Kellog's memory.

Bethesda is the type of people who ignore all lore that wasn't actually in a game and only pick and choose what they like while ignoring all other shit, and quite honestly I preffer that to what other companies do because then you get shit like in Halo where important/interesting characters from games are killed off or something in some book 80 percent of fans will never read

>>
>>333125036
Yeah ive learned my lesson but I wanted to pre load the game and all that.
>>
>>333125052

The power armor is one of the few things I like about F4. You should feel like a goddamn tank while wearing it, and this game does it better than the rest. And the whole "power armor training" was a formality in the last two games to maintain balance early on; this valuable, exclusion training lasts a couple hours and consists of, "relax and let the suit do the work!" No shit?
>>
>>333124532
I'm still mad about the power armor. How in the actual fuck is a suit of power armor just sitting on a rooftop in one piece after this much time? Besides that, Bethesda already proved with Fallout 3 that you need training to use it, now you don't with Fallout 4. Consistency must be illegal at Bethesda.
>>
Will Obsidian save us and bring back the Mojave for Fallout 4.5?
>>
>>333125052
The male protag was a soldier so he knows how to use a power armor.

What doesn't make sense is how the fact does the female protag who has only a law degree perform just as well in combat as her soldier husband.

>>333125516
This. How the fuck wasn't it scavenged is beyond me. Not to mention that this is the only t45 PA in the game so it couldn't belong to the BoS.
>>
>>333125516
>How in the actual fuck is a suit of power armor just sitting on a rooftop in one piece after this much time?
No one had a fusion core to use it, most people seem use them to power settlements and stuff.
>>
>>333125737

There's a power core in the basement of the building. Also, power armor didn't need fucking fusion cores until now. The earlier games made a big deal about the internal reactors would power the suit for centuries.
>>
>>333125675
ok what about the female lawyer? how can she use power armor?

you know the old saying "never fuck with a lioness's cubs" or something like that
>>
>>333126131
cant argue with that
>>
>>333125969

Hubby explained it to her. The games never made it seem like it was something hard to learn or even need to have a set of armor present.
>>
>>333125969
She channeled her law degree into the suit and it just worked.

I'm curious about whether or not Bethesda tried for the whole section with the power armor.
>>
>>333125937
>There's a power core in the basement of the building.
It's behind a lock/terminal.
>>
>>333125737
There was a fusion core in the fucking basement of the building of the power armor. In you come strolling, a complete stranger, and the fags upstairs ask you to head on down, and grab the fusion core. They then proceed to let this complete stranger, who has just demonstrated he is more than capable of committing vast amounts of murder, claim the power armor for himself, free of charge.

Furthermore, no one in two HUNDRED years, that's 20 decades for you, have had the brain power to use the power armor, despite the only requirement for it being functional is in SAME GODDAMN BUILDING.

Things like these are somewhat small, but there are so many of such cases in the game that it becomes completely clear that Bethesda simply doesn't care for small details or internal logic. The whole thing is utterly asinine
>>

>Except that it's completely shit and useless unless you spend points on your skills to give you the ability to mod the fuck out of it which costs a lot of caps, parts and levels better spent elsewhere.
Roleplaying

>>
>>333126638

Most of the people in the wasteland don't really know how to hack computers, they are turning into wild animals and only know how to beat things to pieces and eat.

In the world of Fallout lvl 1 hacking skill is already really high-end stuff, you guys couldn't hack through a password prompt even though you spend 20 hours on the computer everyday. (obviously matching a correct word from a list isn't what's actually going on in-game, it's just a game mechanic to simplify the process into an easy-to-digest minigame)

World-building, friend. A major part of Fallout 2 is walking into horrible wasteland towns only to find everyone is strung out on Jet, finding out it is being used a political tool of manipulation, the fucker that invented it, and the whole history behind it. You can't toss important lore aside because you're too lazy to fact check anything. If they want to reboot Fallout, then reboot Fallout and stop giving the titles numbers that imply they have anything to do with the games from 15 years ago.

Come to think of it, that's something they should have kept around: the game-breaking effects of it if you were ever stupid enough to get addicted.

Then why the fuck can our main character, regardless of his/hers stats, hack it no problem? Were all the pre-war citizens schooled in the art of hacking computers?

There are plenty of places where computers are in use. Hell, even raiders set up turret systems. Why haven't the institute or the brotherhood found this one building with power armor and a fusion core, in over 200 years. Why haven't some random hacking savant? I should not be asking all these questions, Bethesda should have made sure such questions could never be raised. They could have made the circumstance for you finding power armor be anything they wished, and they pulled this shit

The probability of that power armor remaining in the building with that fusion core for two hundred years are slimmer the an anorexic girl's waist

He can't, you must put at least one point to hacking and as far as the skills go there are much more inhuman feats you can develop than just hacking consoles. All RPG's are always developed around the idea that your character will turn into a god by the end of the game.

If you're thinking that "the world is crumbled into shit, surely everyone are fucking dumb as bricks" then I advise that you should sign up for being on of the Bethesda's writing team, I'm sure you will fit just right in.

The question of why the power armor and fusion core wasn't looted before you arrived remains unanswered.
If anyone can become a master hacker if they put enough time into it, why hasn't anyone done exactly that in two centuries, and hacked the damn terminal to the basement?

I am also pretty sure that you can hack that terminal no matter what your "stats", else you wouldn't be able to proceed with the main quest

Being a hacker in Fallout is really easy. Every single computer out there was made by the same company, runs the same OS, and will never be updated. Therefore, finding a single vulnerability you find should allow you to exploit every computer in the country in the exact same fashion.

>>
>>333128931
Now, anon, You must admit, that isn't really a fulfilling answer. We are, after all, talking in over 200 hundred years. The world is fucked, and that means people would scrounge and scavenge every nook and cranny of the world in a bid to survive and thrive. I refuse to believe that in that amount of time, no one went in to check the building or it's roof, especially considering that a crashed vertibird is visible from the outside
>>
>>333129171
I think that makes it worse, honestly. If the people in charge of managing the public image of the game don't at least put up a pretense of giving a fuck about the lore, then the company as a whole truly doesn't either.

They need pure DNA that is not ruined by the radiation to create great clones, that's why they kidnapped Shaun anyway but I don't know about those other guys that pretty much sleep in toxic waste.

I guess they did some sort of tests with those people before realizing that their DNA was shit, or maybe they tried to make them better, some sort of cure?

All of these questions and more will surely be answered in the various upcoming DLCs that Bethesda is cooking in their pot of wisdom.

So how did no one ever find a child trapped in a fridge out in the open after 200 years? The kid calls out to you as you pass by. Has no one else ever walked pass the fridge or did they all just ignore the screaming?

I am far more curious to how the fucker survived for 200 years.
Was the fridge stuffed with food, or do ghouls subsist from radiation?
>>
>>333133112
Ghouls subsist from radiation.
See: Aqua-Cura in Broken Steel.
A ghoul businessman takes Aqua-Pura, pours it into another container and sells it, then refills the bottles with regular irradiated water and sells it to ghouls. The ghouls can't tell the difference and the radiation is actually good for them.

>>333133358
Surely they still need to eat though?
>>
>Someone kidnaps your son

They do
But that doesn't matter cause funny quest
>>
>The apocalypse was hundreds of years ago
>No one is bothering cleaning up the rubble
>Everyone lives in a ruined house that is filled with trash
>>
>>333134090
What really pisses me off about that quest is that the premise itself (a pre war child gets stuck somewhere, and becomes a ghoul that survives over 200 years) is ok. The excecution is what makes the whole quest so damn stupid.
Let's say, that instead of a fridge, the kid gets stuck in some basement, and survives on feeding off on moss/fungi, bugs, rats etc, and whatever that ends up living within that basement after the war.
Bam, the same end result, but sensible this time

Really? I love the settlement building. Don't get me wrong it shouldn't be in the next one, but it's enjoyable for what it is

You mean like in every single post-apocalyptic movie/game.

Shame on you Bethesda!
>>
>>333133928
Vacant house for 50 years sitting in city where people sleep on the ground outside. Ok Bethesda, I'm weeely weeely sure this happened
>>
>>333132673
Maybe they just kept walking like me.
>>
>>333134758
What houses in Boston are actually vacant though? I can't recall any in the city proper. All of them are inhabited by either raiders, super mutants, ghouls, or gunners.

Outside of the city though, there are plenty of empty houses.
>>
>>333135050
There are two places. one outside of hallicgen and one near gwinett resturant
>>
>>333134463
Now make this kid operate one of the radio stations instead of a betabax turbofaggot and the game is now far more interesting.
Kid can't talk because his mic is busted but the songs contain clue to his location.
>>
>>333121553
>they mentioned piper on the diamond city radio broadcast
Cmon. I don't like the game but it's fucking in your face.
>>
I was always curious about something.
Fallout has radio broadcasts, but has no one bothered to make an actual tv show in the game?
>>
>>333128706
up until bethesda made fallout 3 PA didn't need training to use, it also didn't need power cores because the reactor in the PA could power the armor for centuries.
>>
>>333134336
If you were born in Africa would you bother cleaning up?
What is making less sense
>come from a vault which preserved pre-war culture
>lay foundation to a new village
>they all devolve into wearing loincloths, living in mudhuts and speaking creole
>>
>>333135050
I meant kellogs house, it is hard to belive that he just keeps it. Wasnt it only used as a dummy for the child?
>>
>>333136607
Fallout also has no bicycles.
I mean it would be possible but what do you want to broadcast? Soap operas for the 7 people being able to afford televison broadcast?
>>
>>333127139
>it's an "anon has a stroke" episode
>>
>>333136607
background radiation fucks with wireless frequencies and causes signal decay. Broadcasting TV vs radio has much different requirements for signal bandwidth and range.

The more data you're sending in a stream the more you're going to notice the decay from background radiation.

That and the only cameras that exist and still work are military grade sensors on robots/turrets, and the occasional security camera in facilities that were consistently maintained after the war.

You'd basically have to re-invent TV studio cameras, and even the biggest factions can't make usable camera film because there's too much background radiation in the fallout universe for film to be usable.

I thought fallout 3 or NV had rusted bycicles laying around as rubble?

He's a malfunctioning synth. Get an axe.
>>
YOU ARE A SYNTH ALL ALONG!
>>
>>333139595

Cause Synth Shaun is fucked if you take him into the Commonwealth. He doesn't age and will be 10 for as long as he lives. When people eventually figure out he is not ageing get they will ask questions, and with many Wastelanders already suspicious of Synths, I think it's likely they may try to kill him. If the Sole Survivor dies, Synth Shaun is even more fucked because their one protection is gone.

The only way he might be safe is if they transfer his mind into an adults Synths body.

Shaun was kidnapped because they wanted pure DNA, even though the DNA of those within the Institute couldn't have been that bad. Those they kidnapped were guinea pigs (though they conveniently never show this). Mostly, though, the people the Institute is blamed for kidnapping actually just die in the wasteland in unrelated circumstances. The Institute notices and inserts a copy. Only when the copy is discovered do people jump to the conclusion that the original had been kidnapped. Also there was something about their needing to dissect people's personalities so as to better replicate human emotions in synths.

Really the why wasn't the retarded part, at least in terms of just the kidnapping. It was the fact they were trying to create realistic synthetic humans while treating them as slaves and denying them their humanity. If they never intended for them to be humans, why strive so hard to replicate it? Especially when they can build super generators and make people essentially immortal without need for ghoulification.

Cancer isn't a disease like say tb that has a cure

It's an error on the genetic level. Much harder to solve when every cell in your body carries that defect and even more difficult if the cancer is aggressively popping out

Easier to replace Kellogg with robot parts that eliminating cancer
