>I wish you fags would go back and actually play Arcade again to see how boring it actually was
I played it with friends when it released free on PS+ a few years ago and it's still fun. Virtual Bart was a boring minigame fest, Bart's Nightmare was better in its variety and the hub area is more enjoyable than anything in Bart's Nightmare (at least until the infinite Jebediah heads start coming out for no fucking reason).

And I mentioned the PS2 games, don't be such a faggot.
>>
>>333108542
I can't argue about the ps2 games but at least arcade was a passable mindless beat em up. Barts nightmare and virtual bart were just a bunch of minigames.
>>
>>333109134
>>333109173
mindless beatemups only work if they're one level. You've beaten one enemy or boss, you've beaten them all. It's better to have multiple boring games like swinging from trees or throwing eggs/tomatoes than to keep whacking people with your vacuum cleaner

6/10 for console
5/10 for ds

>>
>>333109302
It gets more challenging around the dream stage, the difficulty just seems low because there's no threat of losing money when you die. Few arcade games stand the test of unlimited credits.
>>

The Japanese level is funny.

The entire game is pretty funny, actually. Gameplay is pretty average, but the writing is really solid. If anything you'll get a few laughs from it.
>>
I used to have bart simpson's escape from camp krusty on the gameboy.

Everytime you got damaged the game would pause - and all music would stop for the voice which said, "EAT MY SHORTS."

Every time. That got old fast. The emulation versions don't have this for some reason.

Goddamn that was a bad game... I don't think it auto-scrolled, but the way that it scrolled wouldn't follow the action sometimes.

I remember another GB game, I think it was Bart vs. The Juggernauts and it was another minigame collection. Don't recall how bad it was but I'm sure it was better than the NES games

Aside from the bosses being quartermunchers and hitsponges, no. The arcade game is fantastic. The only other downside was it was made so early in Simpsons' lifetime almost nothing is relevant to the series at large.

>>
>>333112795

Probably a licensing issue with Fox. Konami must have lost the license to The Simpons and didn't feel the need to renew it.

I think the same thing happened with the X-Men arcade games.
>>
>>333113603
It being a quarter muncher is exactly what makes it a bad game.
Almost every beat-em-up on early arcades was bad. At the end of the day I'll always choose Streets of Rage well-tuned difficulty over TMNT's quarter-munching.
>>

It was ugly as shit, even by NES standards.

>Bart vs The Space Mutants had Bart fighting off an alien invasion who needed purple items or hats or whatever
>Bart vs The World had Bart fighting off Burn's family assassins from killing his family
What the fuck was going on with the stories in early Simpson games?
>>
>>333114008
Streets of Rage is damn good, but that doesn't mean arcade b-mups aren't a good time. Simpsons was about the cream of the crop in terms of variety, environmental interactiveness, and cooperation (the team up abilities, or items you need multiple players to lift).

You can get really far on one quarter, if not beat the game entirely. There's definite strategy to the game.
>>
>>333114008

Is it being a quarter-muncher your only issue with it?

Metal Slug is designed to be a quarter-muncher and those games are fucking fantastic. Tons of classic games originated in the arcades, where they were designed to not only take your money but to also be fun. That's why we remember games like The Simpsons Arcade so fondly. If it was a bad game, so many people wouldn't love it so much.

Quarter-mucher =/= bad game.

>>
>>333114227
At the end of the day they were only 20-30 minutes long if even that. Difficulty was a way to extend playtime.

>>333114313
It seems to have a strategy in the beginning but towards the end some bosses have single kill move, theres no chance to stun, and bosses have way higher attack reach both horizontally and vertically than any characters.

>>333114406
SNK actually touted pretty heavily on how Metal Slug can be single credited. It's something they still design for with the console/handheld exclusive games. It's just really difficult.
>>
There was a game on the Simpson's Sega Genesis called "Bart's Nightmare" or something like that, and there was a level where you played as Maggie in some temple of doom that was full of traps.

I could never beat that level and I tried so many times as a kid.
>>
>>333114745

Any arcade game could be single credited if you're really good. I'll give it to you that some are designed in a way where they throw a lot of bullshit at you that's impossible to deal with unless you throw tons of money at it, but I don't think The Simpsons Arcade had that. Some of the bosses were ridiculous, but I trust 90's Konami designed it in a way that wasn't meant to just take your money.

Temple of Bart, almost everyone says it's the hardest part due to having a shit-ton of mechanics involved that the manual doesn't talk about.
>>
>>333108156
Virtual Bart is so hard it isn't even funny. Also, turn off that filter faggot.
>>
>>333114984
Single-Crediting a Metal Slug or Contra required a good reflex and knowledge of boss patterns.
Single-Crediting an early beat-em-up like Simpsons or TMNT required abusing a single move's invincibility time. Even watching a single credit run of The Simpsons all I see is the jump attack used over and over. It doesn't look as fun as MS.

The Simpsons Arcade had a lot going for it that other early beat-em-ups couldn't compete with. But compared to later Capcom and Sega beat-em-ups, it's just not as fun as them.

Why does Lisa care if Bart has an F or not?
>>
>>333110072
Played it on the 360 back then. It's decent. The cutscenes are pretty much out of the tv show, The gameplay is okay at best, I do like that each family memeber has completely different abilities like Bartman's gliding and Lisa's Buddhist arms coming down from the sky and then picking up large objects (similar to Bayonetta's ability), and while the game did have a start to finish in story, you could go back through each level and try to find all the hidden collectables just like most classic 3D platformers. I unfortunately can't play it anymore due to the disc getting severely scratched and never bothered to go back and get it fixed or replaced. Still worth playing, even back when it was $50.
>>
>>333115856
I'm surprised the people who brag about how much they sold out South Park haven't sold out enough for a freemium game.
Speaking of, where is the news on Fractured But Whole? You'd think that now that they got the engine they could pump those games out.

>>
>>333114275
Early in the Simpsons' lifetime, people didn't understand what the show was really going to be about. Couple that with the fact game designers were not privy on details of the shows they were paid to make tie-ins for. And the fact video games were still considered kids toys, so nobody regulated how their franchise was being depicted very closely.

Interesting times.
