Re: LoI, I think you're right. When it was brand new (which was when I got it) it was hugely disappointing. Probably because of the glut of 3d character action games at time - see DMC and GoW, etc.
Later it became clear that it held its own semi-unique charm. I certainly don't hate the game.
I don't even mind Lords of Shadow (I've yet to play 2). I'm about halfway through it because I'm taking it slow. But I like how it wears its influences on its sleeves. Like the first big boss clearing being a Shadow of the Colossus encounter. But in an OST thread it's never going to show up because it's forgettable.
Fell in love with it the moment this started playing both during one of those previews and when I actually played it.

I think what kills it for me is the CotM quality. All the HoD tunes leans almost entirely on the legacy GBA wave tables. CotM really pushed trying to get samples out on the weak GBA channels that existed.
CotM was aiming for SotN and while it didn't get there it was great. HoD aimed for CV3 and achieved it but we've already been here. Make sense?
