The problem with innovation is when it becomes the standard, and is beaten into submission by repetition. Modern Warfare 1 was new and fresh at some point, and somewhat innovative. Now its the standard formula. You NEED customization and multiplayer to even be looked at as a shooter anymore.

yeah same, hopefully the sequel keeps the excellent writing and streamlines the gameplay a bit. Apparently they've gotten rid of the overworld exploration instead replacing it with a tapestry style map and you just pick where you want to go and there may be random encounters, sort of like fallout 1+2's system.
