It got hacked, but people stopped caring.
>>
I guess the hacked PS3 slim under my TV isn't really hacked after all.
>>
>>333090178
It's hacked but bullshit to do. A guy in my area charges $250 to fucking hack it. What's the fucking point?
>>
>>333090178
It was hacked years ago bae.
>>
>>333092336
Well you need a certain model to downgrade to a 3.50 to hack it , you also need to BUY hardware to downgrade your system.
>>
>>333092575

Why's this such a surprise? That's just like the good old days!
>>
>>333090178
>"slim"
>unhackable

There's like 4 different Slim models. I mean if you're going to talk about hacking, you have to be more fucking specific than "Slim". It depends entirely on your model number.

Funny, PS2 needs a "Hardmod" too, cant be done software wise.
>>

and no games.
>>
>>333092753
Every PS2 model can play backups solely through software modifications.
>>
>>333092753
Nah, ps2 can be softmodded but you need to have a copy of 007 Agent Under Fire, and it has to be original (black) so no greatest hits copy (red)
>>
>>333092926

Starting third quarter 2008, no they can't.
>>
>>333092997

Or just buy a memory card with the hack on it.

>>
>>333093285
Not him but want me to explain me how PS2 works or you want to google it yourself?
>>
>>333093285

The hack everyone uses with PS2 is FreeMCBoot. As long as that shit is on your memory card you can pirate with ease.
Tough bit is getting it on the memory card. Obviously you can't plug it into your PC. So you gotta get creative.
007 AUF is one of many games that have several ".exe"s on the disc. They're called something different but they work in the same way.
You burn your own DVD with one of the exes changed to a FreeMCBoot installer.
When the game loads a new exe, you swap the original out for one you burned. Then FreeMCBoot installs and you're good.

>buying hardware you have zero control over

Why are console owners such cuckolds /v/?
>>
>>333093031
Those models don't support FMCB 1.9 but you can still boot homebrew through Swap Magic.
>>
>>333093682

Oh yeah you're right, and from there you can get ESR so you don't have to do a sensor mod either.
>>
>tfw have a newer revision of the slim model
>can't downgrade
;_;
>>
>>333093031
Jesus Christ they were still making revised models in 2008? I mean I know they produced them for ages, but for them to actually still make revised models for that long is surprising. Even if it is primarily for more efficient/cheaper production.
>>
>>333093894

It was a simple BIOS update, not even a hardware update. It was a simple fix to help combat piracy, which would be rampant in the places these machines were still being sold.
>>
>>333093543
>You burn your own DVD with one of the exes changed

But don't you need FreeMCBoot to use burned disks in the first place?
>>
>>333093894
Latest PS3 model is from 2013, and they will probably make a new one if it makes production cheaper since people are still buying those.
>>
>>333094031
I believe the console only checks if the disc is legit at boot, after that you can swap it out with something else and it will read it.
>>
>>333092926
Wait, really? Do you have a good link for this? There are a few games I'd probably want to play on my fat.
>>
>>333094031
Using a game with a certain ELF file, you use a slide card to pull the tray out freezing the game at a certain point. Insert the disk with modified file(same game), click something for the ELF to load and it just works. The modified file is the way to execute whatever home brew .
>>
This FreeMCBoot, what does it allow? Can you run games off a USB? Or even the Hard Drive on the PS2 Fat?
>>
>>333094031

Kinda.
Whenever you close the PS2's tray, the drive controller verifies that what was put in the console is a valid disc. If it looks like a real PS2 disc, a real DVD video or a burned DVD video then the rest of the console is allowed to read whatever it wants from the disc.
When you replace the real disc with a burned one, you have to do it without pressing the drive knowing it was opened. When the new disc is in, as far the drive is concerned the authentic 007 is still in the tray. So the console lets the game blindly run the hacked exe.

The "burned DVD video" trick is also what lets you use burned games. When you burn games for FreeMCBoot, you patch them so they look like DVD videos to the drive controller but are recognised as games by FreeMCBoot software.

>>333094351

I'd recommend the HDD mod if you have a fat.
>>
>>333094507

>Can you run games off a USB?
Yes, but USB 1.1 read speeds are fucking dire.
>Or even the Hard Drive on the PS2 Fat?
A far, far superior solution.
>>
>>333094507
Yes and yes
>>
>>333094532
but how do i swap if I can't open the tray?
>>
>>333094651
Isn't Loading over your network the superior solution
>>
>>333094532
Quick google says I need IDE? I might have a SATA to IDE adapter somewhere but I think I gave it away, time to go hunting around the house I guess.
>>
>>333094651
>USB 1.1 read speeds are fucking dire

Really? Even slower than DVD?
>>
>>333094731

On the PS2 fat, you can use a slide card to pull open the tray without pressing the button. You can also take off the casing and access the drive directly, or install a permanent flip-top case if you're doing it a lot.
On the slim, you must cover up the sensors that determine if the tray is open.

>>333094759

Fat Internal HDD > SMB (network) = DVD > USB

>>333094839

Make sure whatever setup you're planning on using will actually fit in the PS2 expansion bay.

>>333094920

Yes. FMVs will always stutter.
>>
>>333094920
Yes, games are playable mostly and cutscenes are unwatchable all the time.
>>
>>333094351
Google FMCB 1.9 and pick a way to install it on your memory card. There are multiple ways to do it.
After you have done that plug a IDE HD in the back of your ps2 and download OPL. Install games on it over the network cable and boot them with OPL.
>>
>>333095039
Load screens are slower too?
>>
>>333095152

>Giving shit advice
You don't need FMCB on your memory card if you're installing an IDE HDD.

is there even a purpose to jailbreaking your PS3 at this point? didn't that whole craze die out like 3-4 years ago back when people lost interest. Are newer games even cracked and able to be downloaded??
>>
>>333095165
Haven't noticed playing Playing P4
>>
>>333095256

Yeah, I've been doing it. They haven't bumped up security, and I can run the latest firmware/use PSN.
>>
>>333092740
The PS4 has more security issues than the PS3 had, at least on early firmwares.
>>
>>333095230
There is no reason not to have it on your memory card. The space it consumes is insignificant.
>>
>>333095256
>cracked

Are you fucking retarded? The jailbreak simply allows you to play burned games (Or ISOs on the hard drive). There is no limit so long as the game was released on disc. Not sure about digital only games.
>>
>>333095393

The point is that you don't need to go to the trouble of installing it on your MC by one of the conventional hacks when you can just flash a file to your HDD and be dodne.
>>
>>333095256
>Are newer games even cracked and able to be downloaded??
Ofcourse they are and they don't even need to be cracked what are you talking about? Just download an iso and play it on a CFW with Cobra
>>
>>333095410
>The jailbreak simply allows you to play burned games
Can you actually burn a PS3 game on a BD and play it like that? Never tried (don't have bd burner)
>>
>>333090178
If you have anything earlier than the second slim revision (2011) then it's hackable.
Anything after that and its a lot more difficult, but not impossible.

In any case you have to buy a piece of hardware and open up the system to force reflash the firmware.
Pretty impressive security.
>>
>>333095587

I have a hacked PS3, but no BD burner. I think I can do it like that, but I just FTP ISOs to my hard drive.
>>
>>333095256
I've been looking into again for Persona 5 undub, but I found out my slim is just past the required model.
>>
>>333094920
Yes, USB 1.1 speed limit is 10Mb/s which is around 1.2MB/s, DVD is 4.5MB/s.
>>
>>333095687
>Persona 5 undub
> implying Persona 5 for PS3 will be released outside of Japan

Maybe when they fucking announced it to release in winter 2014
>>
>>333095687
You can still use an ODE I think, but not really worth the trouble since its like 100$ and could fuck your shit up
>>
>>333095393
>>333095478
Regardless of your guys' discussion, I don't think I have the adapter anymore and I also don't have an extra hard drive to permanently dedicate to a PS2. I might be best off hoping PCSX2 runs well with the few games I'd like to play (I already know Return to Arms absolutely won't work though and that was one of them).
>>
>>333095478
You still need a way to write to your IDE HD which I assume is as convenient as using one of the methods to get FMCB on your memory card.
And even if you can easily do that, it is recommended to also have FMCB on your memory card as a plan B in case of removing/dying HD.
>>
>>333095946

>And even if you can easily do that, it is recommended to also have FMCB on your memory card as a plan B in case of removing/dying HD.
I can agree there. It just seems that using the HDD first is the most reasonable way of getting your foot in the door, I guess.
>>
PS vita hack when?
>>
>>333095940

You could always just buy a memory card with FreeMCBoot installed. Shouldn't cost you much, hassle free.
>>
>>333096087

Never.
>>
>>333095256
All the older games I'm interested in are cut into 40x200mb parts or so and uploaded to shady file hosting sites with shitloads of popup ads.

At least use Mega for fuck sake.
>>
>>333095881
The only bad thing about ODEs are firmware updates. Sony sometimes patches things so ODE stops working and then everything goes to shit so you need to be very aware and do your research each time there's an update. Not that that's an issue anymore unless you know japanese and still get new games (which are mostly just japanese)
>>
>>333096347
So will ODEs actually work on superslim?
>>
>>333093894
There have been 18 ps2 hardware revisions. As long as you're still making it then it pays to make it more profitable.

There have already been 4 ps4 hardware revisions. Between the launch model and the new all-matte model there was one that improved the WiFi antenna, and one that improved power consumption and heat. People didn't even know until they noticed the new model numbers
>>

Since you are all talking about mods, is there a mod for 360 that I can do myself? I have it accumulating dust because I don't have cash for both live AND actually buying the games.
>>
>>333097447
yeah the 360 is a joke to hack, get googling
>>
>>333097348
No experience but I know they work however I recommend asking someone experienced to install the mod. It's worth if you're planning on downloading more than 100$ worth of games. You could either do that or do what I did which was to sell my PS3 + controllers + original games that I already had and buy a used PS3 with CFW already installed.
>>
>>333097673
Yeah I wanna get mgs legacy collection which is already 60$ since you cant find it cheaper + a couple of stuff and they're all neatly seeded on my ptracker. Thanks for the advice anon I'll try and find some guy who mods them in my area
>>
>>333097447
Pretty sure there was a working 360 hack even before the official console launch when some hacker got his console a day or two early
>>
>>333097673
This. Bought a CFW'd PS3 for ~150€, updated CFW, did some fucking around and got to play GTAV and Destiny online on launch for free.
>>
>>333097447
It's super easy to flash a 360 DVD drive but you have to burn all your games. Only a few dvd burners work and only on a few specific brands of dual layered DVDs at slow ass speeds.

It's a pain in the ass to actually play anything.
>>
>>333098092
Did you ever gat banned?
>>
The vita would have actually taken off if they made it completely open to hacking.
>>
>>333098191
Getting the games isn't an issue
Here in beaner country you can find them easily, some fags dedicate their whole lives to selling you the games.
I just don't trust these faggots to hack it, because they can change the laser for an old rotten one or some bullshit.
>>
>>333098314
Not him but if you keep your shit updated (namely your CFW and whichever PSN enabler is currently the safest) and don't use cheats then it is very unlikely you will be banned.

Even if you are banned you can still spoof your ID with a clean one.
>>
>>333098314
Not him but I did something similar.
Didn't get banned but obviously used a throwaway psn account.
Cfw lies about your firmware no. when psn aks so as far as psn and game servers are concerned you're a legit player.
Just don't be retarded and hack/cheat in games
>>
>>333098684

If Sony deliberately released insecure firmware for their old hardware like ps3s it would drive sales. Who cares if people pirate old games, its not like anybody was going to buy them legit anymore, probably can't even find any ps3 games new nowadays.
>>
>>333098191
I thought it was pretty rough to flash a 360 drive. Don't you need to buy like $60+ of shit? Then you still might have to open up and hardmod depending on which drive and model you have. I never heard that burning them was the bad part as long as you use dual layers and the right software to burn.

I have a slim newish 360 sitting around here that I have never even used. Someone gave it to me because they didn't want it.

thats okay anon. ask and i shall share what i can

>>333099529
no idea honestly. the main thing right now is making sure we can gain more control over the system. just a kernel exploit isnt enough. the main issue is the new hardware push sony is trying. since it was announced soon after said exploit it could mean sony is trying to make the old hardware unobtainable and only have a new system with a base FW of 2.XX or higher to avoid the 1,76 FW exploits. Its the superslims all over again with this but theyre pushing power and 4k along with it to really get users to get the new model
>>
>>333092753
Actually you can soft-mod it with the memcard exploit. This has literally been a thing for like a decade and every model is susceptible.

Nah they don't need to release a new hardware model to force new mandatory firmware.

They did that with games.
Gta V included the latest ps3 firmware on disk and wouldn't work until after you installed it, several other games did it too.
Plus they could just update the firmware version ps4s ship with without changing the hardware at all.

I take development of Rebug CFW will eventually stop some time soon. Namely because of the release of the source code, how busy each team member has been with family, and Sony eventually ending PS3 FW updates.

Ripping, testing, PS1/2 games, staying up to date to be able to test new things and troubleshoot if needed.

Software end it allows retail games to be played as well as BD-R discs with fself eboots (debug/dev signed). Just has some extra perks out of the box and can act like a cfw machine without cfw and swap X/O buttons as well as fake PS+, change region, fake region, turn off HDCP

You make a disc image of the game and replace the second level with an installer.

Agent Under Fire, alongside a few other titles (including one of the versions of FIFA) can be used.

You edit the disc image and replace the second level with a launcher/installer for freemcboot or whatever and then burn it.

Block the disc sensors of the PS2 so it doesn't detect you swapping discs.

Finish the first level and then swap discs during the loading screen for level 2 and then the installer pops up instead.

That's how I did mine. It's pretty cool. Reminded me of those absolutely horrible video game episodes of procedural crime shows where files are buried in a video game or something

actually 3.41 was the first jailbreak, then 3.55 was supposed to fix the exploit, but that was hacked too. then Sony sued Geohot and it scared off a lot of people. then it was like a year or 2 where you couldn';t paly anything that required fw above 3.55, then some hacker drama occurred and the LV0 keys leaked, which let you update your cfw to a higher version, but for some reason don't let you hack that version if you're on OFW
