Literally git gud at managing party members. They're mostly worthless anyways. Only Lin, L, Gwin, and Mia are worth anything as party members. Everyone else is just mission fodder.
Learn to manage your exp. Once you get your level 50 skell, you can grind Lively Tersquals for EXP ez. Hell, you can kill them ez at level 45-50, on the ground, if you've specced right. That'll earn a level and a half for party members below level 30.

I just got the Skell.
I just find the game very confusing.
Lots of shit going on, and almost too much stuff to do. The missions are a bit boring, and they let us accept missions far beyond my level.
The geenral battel system is far more complex than the first game, which is good, but sometime I'm just "Activating stuff that blinks" without thinking or without really understanding what I do and why I do that.
Best exploration ever though.

Potential isn't that strong unless you're trying to tank everything. It's much better to just kill everything.
But yeah, the unexplained stats, resistances, boost percentages, augments (especially skell augments, like the ones that can't be crafted), specific weapon traits that aren't explained, how elements work with skills, damage calculation, and so on. Hell, I didn't know what TP did, besides let me use TP skills, or how to build it up until I got to chapter 5 and got Overdrive.

It all makes sense one day. You'll just wake up, around chapter 8-9, and then have an epiphany, and it literally all makes sense. It's happened to all of us who've gotten that far.
If they just had a better manual, it would be great. Or, hell, had better explanations for things. I feel like this game is much more enjoyable on the second playthrough because you know what you're doing already.
The thing I like about XCX is that the longer you play, the more the game opens up.
Just when you think you can sneak past big monsters, later you get a mech and can just drive past them. Then when you think you're limited to the ground, you get the ability for your mechs to fly.

Wew lad, get with the times. Current best memebuild uses knives or beam sabers. Potential is a wasted state because you need those slots to boost your Overdrive damage.
Dual guns + dual swords potential build takes around 2 minutes longer to kill Gradivus than beam sabers, and a little bit longer for knives. Shields are also broken strong for solo'ing bosses on foot. Using them is the only way to beat Telethier by yourself outside of a skell.

Certain classes use their two weapons more than others. Psycho Launchers are really good for support moves, for example, but are pretty much useless in their original class. Psycho Launchers + Shield is the current only known strategy to beat the endgame bosses on foot, by yourself.
Meanwhile dual guns are used in potential/tp fuckery strategies. You've just gotta figure out what's the best for you. Everything is viable endgame, except for javelins, sniper rifles, and shortswords.

Yeah, they just don't have ridiculous percentage moves like the other classes. Beam Sabers can hit for 1000% of your weapon's damage if you get the melee link and combo skills. Javelins deal the most damage of any weapon, but they don't have the arts or skills to make good use of. It's sad.
They're good for the majority of the story, but you might have some trouble with the Vita if you use one, and then the final boss is really easy to beat if you use them, but they're right after one another, with no time to switch weapons.
I had the game since christmas but due to me being a lazy fuck I only recent put a little more time into it.

Is the Skell a big game-changer in this? Does it make the game significantly more enjoyable? I'm going through the early parts of the game, and the regular on-foot combat and exploration doesn't seem that enjoyable.

All those party members pretty much use the avatar creation system with unique faces due to budgeting but even then we still got the mostly humanoid Celica and L
Milsaadi, Wrothians and female Prone all resemble humans enough that you could just slap a different head onto a human body and have them playable, and it just so happens that each race has a recurring NPC you meet in sidequests; Erio, Gi Zang and Slovity Pagus. They could all work as party members for underrepped weapon types without too much trouble. Such a wasted opportunity.
