Advent Children worked just fine without a fully realistic CG style. In fact fully realistic CG/3D styles tend to be a mistake, because they age worse than stylized CG. It's why stylized CG is the preferable option in every single situation ever.
Mocap faces is completely pointless too, we already have seen they can make passable faces and expressions without that while maintaining the stylized human aesthetic.

5. Surprise! On the day of the Peace Treaty, during the signing ceremony, Niflheim attempts a full scale attack to take Insomnia while the kingdom of Lucis has its guard down. It is during this attack, and the incidents leading up to it, that the CGI movie Kingsglaive takes place.
6. Noctis and Friends hear about this attack on the radio, drive back to the city, but find it blockaded with no way in (as they say at the start of the latest trailer), this is the start of their Journey and the game proper (before this moment you will probably be on rails and in tutorial esque mode, think the slow start in KH2 where you play as Roxas), and they likely will not return to Insomnia until sometime later in the game to take it back.

From what we knew of the Original, Stella was there instead of Luna, but Stella was more of a shakesphearian manipulator who was using Noctis for her own gain and had her own goals.
Stella got changed into Luna to make her a warmer and nicer character. She still has her own goals that may differ from Noct and his crew, and she is still powerful- but her role as shifted from an antagonistic one to a supportive one.
