I got an XL and bro got a regular and I regret my decision. The thing has such low resolution that the bigger screens don't make sense. The XL has a shiny plastic finish that scratches easily whereas the regular has a nice matte finish. The XL is noticeably heavier. You can't swap out the faceplates like on the regular. The buttons on the regular have a nicer colouring. Even if you have big hands, the spacing within the individual groups of buttons is the same on both, the only difference is a very slightly shorter reach to the shoulder buttons. The hinge on his screen seems to be less wobbly, too.

Friend List and everything on the top works on EmuNAND just fine as long as you unlink your NANDs.

There's a tool that specifically transfers the EmuNAND 1:1. Even if that doesn't work you can just backup the EmuNAND into a .bin file via Decrypt9, copy off all the normal stuff on your SD card, then on the new one you just recreate the EmuNAND partition and then restore your backup to it.

When I check mine everyone's logged on just fine even when in a game. I even had to make sure to disable what game I was currently playing since I didn't want everyone to see I was playing Japanese games on a US EmuNAND.
