not him but i didn't have a bow on me and i didn't want to sit there shooting arrows for 20 minutes so i just skipped getting the sword until late game where I just smacked the dragon with melee
Drake Sword isn't even good to begin with. Throughout the very short time it has relevance I'd trust the Pyromancer's Hand Axe instead.
