Final Fantasy VIII also had terrible combat, but wasn't a terrible game.

Honestly the combat isn't THAT bad.
People just wanted / expected Kingdom Hearts.
If you play Platinum demo, you can unlock a few other weapons that really up the combat imo. I had fun with it once I got the Shuriken and the shield. Not to mention there were NO skills in Platinum Demo at all. Its very barebones. I don't really know why they released it like that, cause it really is just a tech demo.
Even if the game can be beaten by just holding O, the fact that you can play around with the combat and do some pretty cool stuff already makes the combat a lot more enjoyable, just like you can beat DMC3 on normal just spamming Triangle but why would you want to do that?
I sure hope that the justice monster five thing lives up to it, when they mentioned Triple Triad on the uncovered event i thought it would be coming back

There is, both the big sword and the shield have skills assigned to Down + O, said big sword having Tempest from the Duscae demo, there's no Drain unfortunately but the standard sword in Platinum ain't the Blood Sword

one of the great things about Tetra Master, even though the game itself wasn't amazing, was collecting cards and the card tournament were a lot of fun
so I'm hoping there's more to the minigames than just going to the arcades and stuff and it's integrated more into the world

It didn't have terrible combat it had ATB just like 7, 6 9 and others.
9 was the worst in this regard because it had this strange slowness to it.
What was horrible in 8 was the pacing of the game. First half of the game is talking BS talking BS *lil bit of action* talking BS talking BS *lil bit of action* talking BS talking BS *lil bit of action*

The really interesting thing about this is how the fandom evolves. The games that started the series lost a lot of the original fans at 7 when they changed things very radically to appeal to a new audience. The same with 13, and now this. The fans of 15 will probably be saying the same thing in about 6-7 years.
