I liked it. Ending was fantastic, I liked the over use of cinematics. Fuck everyone else.

MGS4 was an event
at the time there was so much hype and it really cashed in with the MGS1 nostalgia
it seemed as if this really was the ending of Metal Gear in a fantastical over the top implactful way
it was very cutscene heavy but for some reason everyone at the time gave it a pass because this was a special series
gameplay was good although there wasnt a whole heck a lot of it
looking back you can really pick at its flaws especially if you are new to the series
but at the time there was no way it wasn't getting a 10

Gameplay is great for the first 2 chapters then hits a brick wall of god awful gimmick sections, god awful writing, long and numerous infodump cutscenes, nonsensical plot twists and cop outs, unnecessary characters, nostalgia bait covering up mediocre gameplay, etc. then is capped off with the single worst most hamfisted ending in the history of video games

I thought the Laughing Octopus battle was a real highlight. It feels like the only series it could have worked in was MGS. It uses fear, comedy, confusion and brute force to really mess with you the first time you do it and it honestly was one of my favorite MG boss battles (having played all the games except Portable Ops and the Ac!d series).

I liked it. I agree that the length of some of the cutscenes got stupid at times. Since I basically marathoned the whole series when I played it for the first time, I was used to Kojimas love for cutscenes, so they didnt annoy me as much as they maybe should have.
Never cared much about the story in any MGS game, so I cant comment much on whatever it did or did not do, what it did right or wrong. From the very first game, I treated the story of MGS as one big, dumb, ridicilous spectacle and I never took it seriously. Maybe thats part of why I enjoyed it. I was basically just waiting to see what ludicrous thing Kojima was gonna come up with next.
