FFVIIR got announced, and not only was it making headlines in mainstream news, it was one of the top-trending things on twitter. Public interest in the series is probably higher now than it's been in ages, thanks to that announcement.

As somebody who actually kind of hates the more sci-fi/"modern" themes in FF games, and prefers the more fantasy-based themed FFs, I have to say, the modern/sci-fi theme mixed with some fantasy ala Noctis (From what I can tell anyway) seeing visions and being visited by the big deities and being led around by Carbuncle in his dreams and whatnot, is a really good way to merge the two together.
