Sure it has exclusives but it sucks as a console. Exclusives are all it has, its graphics capabilities are lower than the Xbox 360's. The Wii U just isn't good for this reason. Other consoles do have exclusives too, and they can also play 3rd party games, of which Wii U has very lacking support. The gamepad is sometimes cool, but many people don't like it, which is a failure on of the most important parts of a console is arguably the controller experience.

Metroid has the most potential out of any Nintendo IP, save possibly a Pokemon game that actually tries to change the formula.
The issue is that the people in charge of Metroid don't care about it. Metroid has always been a second thought after Warioland, Fire Emblem and Mario.
That and almost anyone could come up with a better concept for a new Metroid than Sakamoto could.

It doesn't have any worthwhile games. Exclusives don't make the console, and the Wii U not only has a weak lineup of exclusives, but lacks third party, continued support, poor online, poor gamepad implementation, and various issues with the OS and device itself.
It's a pretty crappy console all around, and only Nintendo fans should get something out of it; even then, it doesn't really appeal to all Nintendo fans, which is telling.
