I had to roll back to 359.06 because 364.51 was causing my system to crash whenever I streamed any sort of video.

this means your card is overheating. it's happening more and more because the overheating is getting worse.

"driver stopped responding" just means your card physically had a memory error in most circumstances

2016 /v/: why blow out my computer with compressed air, it's nvidia's fault!

970 owner here, I can't put YT on my second monitor while playing a game because it tanks my FPS. Steam's built-in FPS counter shows above 200fps in CSGO, yet it looks choppy in-game. Even while using HTML5 player, so it's not a case of Flash raping my CPU. CPU usage is anywhere from 30-40%.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

I don't even update unless there's a specific game the drivers aim to optimize.

The benefit for games overall of newer drivers are minimal, unless it's something made for them, you'll see maybe a 1-3 fps improvement if you're lucky. So why update when you don't have to?

well that's good news, I was gonna wait until PCI-4.0, but if it doesn't matter then sure.
>>
>>332975257
Nah, what happened with 15.11 was if someone set a custom fan curve in MSI Afterburner, when you updated it'd lock the fanspeed to 20% no matter the load. Some cards shut off due to overheating, but unless it was a cheap OEM like XFX that cuts corners constantly, nothing should've blown.

Current ones are 16.3 iirc

>>
>>332975274
That's kind of what I thought. Is there a possible work around? My 144hz main monitor is plugged in via DVI, and the 60hz secondary monitor is hooked up via HDMI, if that matters.
>>
>>332976475

This.

I once used a Radeon just to play the elite graphics of Grand Theft Auto III (at the time) and it shit the bed hard. I've used nvidia ever since and literally never once had a problem. Maybe one driver issue that I can remember that wasn't immediately corrected by rollback.

These guys are either lying or fucking up badly. Maybe they put their hair inside their computers every time they go to the barber or something.
>>
>>332976475

Ditto expect there was a 2 year break in there where I had a 7970 as my main card.

I've used almost every reported "GPU killer" driver and never had a single issue. That actually goes both ways as my secondary rendering PC is using the 7970 and used the supposed fan locking Crimson driver that kills cards and was also just fine.

I'm seriously expecting this shit is entirely user stupidity caused.

What are the talking about? DVI can absolutely support 144hz, in fact it's the only connector some 144hz monitors had before HDMI 2.0 was a thing.

>WHEN AMD HAS BETTER DRIVERS
Already does on Linux, but those drivers are Linux-exclusive. Only problem is their development has been slow and they still don't support as many features but they continue to improve and they're nice stable and non-bricking.

Actually there was a cool bit of news today that Compute Shader support has landed. That means that now the only thing standing between the new drivers and full OpenGL 4.5 support is the KHR robustness stuff that really is only used for webgl.
>>

You can do most of the fan control from the bios (like you should), but drivers and updated service packages allow you to do the same.

What happens if I start a gaym
>>
I was having problems with the newest drivers until I used DDU to wipe the drivers clean and do a new install
>>
>>332977363

It's actually all the same driver, technically. You see the first shit driver 364.47 is improperly installed on Windows 10 due to Microsofts love for total control over driver installs on W10 ignoring the WHQL flag.

If you ever used 364.47, you have to either use a driver cleaner or do a "Clean Install" in the nvidia setup when using a different driver or else some the busted driver component stay alongside the new driver.

People constantly use express install, and as such these reports will continue to happen forever until the retards stop clicking express.

Had my AMD card die to the crimson 16.1. Ironic that the hotfix actually made the hardware hotter.

Every advantage AMDs competitors have over them is synthetic and misrepresents that actual performance of their products

AMD CPUs perform poorly because of the outdated coding standards that have barely improved since the mid 2000s which rely heavily on the performance of 1 or 2 cores.

AMD's GPUs suffer from Nvidia pushing code that is specifically inefficient on AMD GPUs. GCN has proved its worth. Nvidia had to revamp their entire architecture to remain competitive against GCN which has existed since 2010

The only thing you should take into consideration when buying a GPU is how many other people will use it. GPU support comes from both the manufacturer and game developers but game devs are always going to cast the widest net possible and target the most common GPUs.
