Why did OG Xbox controllers have these stupid breakaway cables? Every time I come across one in the wild, this stupid thing is always missing.

whenever i get up to get a drink or have to answer the door, i have this habit of having the controller still in my hand. so if im playing ps2 the fucking system will get yanked across the room. but if im playing xbox the cable will just pop off pretty convenient imo
I thought it was a good idea because plugs can get dented or broken off and if your trip over the cable it wont pull your console off the shelf.

It's also pretty common with wired 360 controllers. My fightpad, Xplorer, and RB drums have that.
Makes me wonder if you can use an Xbox controller with a 360 breakaway or vice versa. Probably not.
