It's good fanservice and not much else. The mechanics are very simple and the only incentive to keep playing is to get more fanservice. It's well made for sure: the animations are great. Each level of 'fighting style' adds new animations showing how Guts adapts to handling the dragonslayer with more skill. The soundtrack is really good, Susumu Hirasawa continues to be a god among men. Voice acting is about as good as in the original anime. Get used to hearing Guts screaming like a lunatic

Something like a Musou title with better mechanics for handling one-on-one battles. Souls style is too sluggish, Platinum style is weightless. The PS2 game did a good job with the swordplay but it's very shallow. I'm willing to accept the game not being super deep mechanically just as long as using the dragonslayer feels as powerful as it needs to. I hate to say it but I think the PS2 game probably is as good as Berserk game as can be without getting away from the heart of the source material.

memeing aside, Platinum probably could make a decent Berserk game. Guts kind of moves very fast but there's some weight to his attacks as shown in the PS2 game and how he positions his swings in the manga.
Transformers Devastation showed they could make a fast-paced action game while making the attacks feel "weighty" so to speak. A lot of attacks in that game felt very quick but had a lot of wind-up and impact to them that made it feel satisfying.
It won't happen either way but it's wishful thinking.

Berserk is a manga that has LOTS and LOTS of detail, faces, muscles, clothes, backgrounds, of course it's not the only one and there are other manga with amazing art but still. This is impossible to do in hand-drawn animated form. 3D models can't go off-model, details don't really matter because it's all part of the model and they can be properly shaded and added some effects(guts looks great in the teaser and the whole thing is not over yet).

As for there being a 'best'. That's irrelevant. I love Lupin III Count of Cagliostro VHS Dub. It is a dub, it isn't amazing in any way, but I have fond memories of it. Just like I have on Ranma 1/2.
So my 'best' is based on more things than just animation or plot or whatever. I never claimed me not liking Berzerk wasn't an opinion, hell, it isn't even me not liking it. It's just regularly brought up on /v/ like some sort of apex of anime. Which it isn't. It isn't particualry well animated, the plot isn't any amazing, the voice work isn't. But if you enjoy it, fair play to you. I do not and I just dislike /v/, as it seems to be only /v/, sucking it's fucking dick and whining that Japan doesn't make more of it, or more like it.
