The only one where you can choose a groove like that is the one on the DC and PSP, and it's generally not considered worth playing all that much., Lots of inaccuracies, especially with the DS1 and NW grooves. Well, first of all the game is really just a heavily modified version of the Savior 2/Hunter 2 engine with only the bare minimum of content from the previous two games ported over. So right off the bat you lose half of the aesthetics of the first two games even though this game is supposedly representing them. And the grooves that supposedly recreate the characters from the first tow games really are just semi-approximate facsimiles, with lots of differences in gameplay and aesthetics. And I'm not talking at the level that fighting game purists complain about, I mean to where even a casual player who played DS1 and NW then picked up Chronicle and played a DS1 or NW mode character would go "hey, that's not right." And even if you didn't care about the first two games at all and only wanted to play it for the Savior versions of the characters, it still has inaccuracies in those modes' move properties, a bizarre change to how animation smears are handled that changes frame data and makes combos that were possible in the source game no longer possible and probably some other things I'm forgetting. Really, it's better to just leave the games in their original, separate forms. Which is what the PS2 port did, as well as the PS3 one (although the latter doesn't in clue the whole series).
